the trail system is a joke the trails were already there.they just hung up signs.and charge people to ride it. it closed down a lot of miles of prime hunting land.

It only benefits certain people. They really don't want to see local folks on it anyway, that is evident by the way many around here are treated by the "rangers." I have seen some window decals that say "Hatfield McCoy trails suck" wonder where they get 'em?

I don't see how anything can be wrong about the Hatfield McCoy trail system. Its a great thing for Wv in every sense. In all parts of the U.S. and Canada, trail riding is an organized sport...from 4 wheeling to snowmobiles. The price we pay to ride these trails is minimal considering the benefits to the community and the state.

Although the trails are a great recreation for most, I do believe that we as riders and bikers of the trails need to help maintain the up-keep of the trails by maybe keeping a more keener eye for slips, slides, breaks, etc, and then in turn report these finding to our locals. I do beleive it is a responsibility of the trail rider to do this.

The Hatfield and Mccoy trails didn't help flood victims. The coal mining companies did.

The way I see it ..these trails were taken away from the local people who were riding them and getting some enjoyment. The group decided they would just slap a H/M sign on it and make a profit and that made the locals having to pay for something they was enjoying freely in the first place..almost akin to running the Indians off their reservations. What else are they going to name H/M??And what really was so special about those H/M's anyway? Their pig?

Yes, twenty five dollars is cheap for a year. But,we used to be able to ride on the same trails for free. Don't get me wrong, the trails has been great for the business in the surrounding areas. I just think it is wrong that all the rodes that we built or our friends built. We have to pay for it now.

The small price we now have to pay is well worth it, I think. The trails are maintained and repaired; the trail system is expanding; there are rangers available to help with accidents, machine failure, etc.; and trails have been connected, as well as trailheads leading out to other areas. The cents per day that it costs to have a one year permit to ride the trails 6.8. For 7 cents per day, you can ride the trails year-round.

I agree with soilent green....to pay $25 to ride an organized, maintained trail is hardly a fee to even argue with. I know we have all enjoyed unlimited access to strip jobs/logging roads/gas well roads, etc...but this was always at our own risk since it is considered trespassing. I think that the trail system is a great asset to the community and our economics in this area.
