Norwood man charged following two-vehicle accident

NORWOOD St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies charged Brett M. Barkley, no age available, of 5 Harrison St., Norwood, with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation Friday after he was involved in a two-vehicle property damage accident on South Main Street, Norwood. Deputies said Barkley was operating a 2004 Dodge Intrepid southbound on South Main Street and rear-ended a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Jane A. Smythe of Massena, who was stopped in the southbound lane of traffic, waiting to make a left-hand turn into the business parking lot of Merriman's.

Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club celebrates 50 years

On Saturday, the city of Ogdensburg and communities throughout St. Lawrence County were invited to join in the 50th anniversary celebration of the club. During the celebrations, the United Way of Northern New York announced it has started an endowment for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Massena and Ogdensburg with the help of a $50,000 donation from philanthropist Tom Walker and the Northern New York Community Foundation.

Massena jail man jailed on $500 bail after pleading guilty to two counts of issuing a bad check

A Massena man who admitted he had cashed two checks on an account he knew had insufficient funds will be sentenced in November in Massena Village Court. Raymond E. Artz, 39, formerly of state Route 37, Ogdensburg, pleaded guilty to two counts of issuing a bad check in a plea bargain agreement that satisfied a host of charges pending in Massena courts.
