It was refreshing to see the Jewish history of Meridian in print. The article brought up old memories, refreshed forgotten ones & shed light on new information.
The history of Meridian is an interesting one and is something I hope will live on in the memories of people who will not forget. It is sad that there are only 40 Jewish families left in Meridian. When I was much younger there were more Jewish families and the shul (synagogue) was right diagonal to the A & P store and the Alpha School of Dance. It was a shame that it burned along with the Scottish Rite building, as both were historical landmarks of Meridian. I remember much of old Meridian in my 60+ years of living here. My dad, obm,(of blessed memory) remembered much more since he was born in 1916. So much of our Meridian history has been lost. With Yom Kippur fast approaching I wish to all Meridian Yidden "g'mar chatimah tovah" (“May you be sealed for a good year in the Book of Life"). |
