It's not just Marion and Coldbrook students who will be relocated. When they are sent to new schools rezoning will take place. Other children will be displaced.

People wanted SSVC closed so the taxpayers could save a few bucks, then why should Marion and Coldbrook be any different? Close 'em down and save us all a dollar or two, right?

Or it could re-appoint the students based on attendance areas.
This is a better idea than moving an entire school across the county.

Helman talks of his sons. Did they even finish as students in CASD (NO)so why is he making moves about others children CASD was not good enough for his. Joe P. talks about saving money why the brand new gym. Could that money spent for it going to these two schools?

Marion is not the only school that has a book fair or a grandparents day. You all act like these things can't be done if your children go to another school. As a matter of fact, CAMS is having a book sale Oct 20 from 6-8 if anyone is interested. It is also open to the public. I don't think closing the school will affect the athletic association since most kids in the baseball league are from the Marion and Greencastle area. The Athletic Association is based on where you live, not what school you go to. Isn't Michele Myers on the board of directors there? Shouldn't she know that??? And there aren't MANY athletic leagues, there is ONE and that's baseball. The soccer program is run through the school/rec center and those kids can continue to play soccer wherever they will go to school. Let's be real people, Marion is not going to stay open forever.

Once you take the school out of Marion there will be a part of the community that is lost. That school is why some families have moved to the area. It does need some repairs but nothing that is pressing. It's normal maintenance that every building needs eventually. If I had a way of posting it I would show you the list of all of the classrooms in the district at the elementary level. There is no room to move Marion. Almost every school has it's classrooms at the maximum level set by the district. They need to add on to a school, and that is the plan, but do the taxpayers want to pay for another mult-million dollar addition or school...probably not. Right now keeping one of those schools open is the only option. I don't think any elementary age parent wants their child in a classroom that has 30-31 students. That is not a good situation.

The only thing that will hurt the athletic association is the newly elected board. They don't care about the kids. They all just wanted on to get rid of a President that actually worked around the fields and cared about the kids.

With all due respect...the day of the neighborhood school is gone (just took a little longer in our district than elsewhere). Portico, Duffield, King Street, Mary B Sharpe all gone and replaced by larger renovated or new buildings with modern technology WHICH THE DISTRICT REQUIRES for our children to COMPETE in our modern world. None of us like it but it equates to this ...spend money repairing outdated buildings or spend money that will last on a renovated/new building to last 20+ years.

As a matter of fact we do have totals for all of the elementary classrooms in the district from the administration of the CASD and in fact most of the classrooms, except for a couple such as Grandview and Lurgan, are at 23 or higher. Guidelines are set at K-2 should have no more than 24 and 3-5 no more than 29.

Actually, it's the 21st Century. But being in the Cumberland Valley makes it seem like the 20th. Or the 19th for that much!!

Past President of Athletic Association= CRY BABY. Yes he may have been "at" the field a lot, but there is so much more that goes into why people didn't vote for him. I know for a fact that the Board Members of the Athletic Association are VOLUNTEERING their time because they care about our kids. Let's face it, the community voted and he didn't get voted back for a reason. Very plain and simple, cut and dry........

Keep the facts and numbers coming Marion parent. Using real numbers and logic is the best way to fend off some of the foolishness I've read in some of these posts.

Close the two schools, not saving any money just avoiding spending it. Fire the 2 janitors, no school no job. There is the savings. We need more buses and drivers to move the students EVERY DAY. Wait now we need more fuel. The teachers all move to the new schools and we dont have enough class rooms. Oops Now we have to add on to the new school to have adequate space for the new students. It has the old snowball effect no matter how you slice it.

It is amazing when you start to look what your learn and I am continuing to look. Just like I went and looked to see if the windows were actually duct taped like Dr Joe said....no they weren't duct taped. Just needed a little caulking like any normal maintenance would call for.

In the cities, people avoid consolidated schools by putting their kids in private school or charter schools. Or they move to small communities. Besides, with all of the "green" trends, why bus kids all over the place? That is so 1970.

close them.. if the School District didn't consider accomodations for these school's students during construction at other buildings- shame on them, but excess capacity, buildings and staff cost the taxpayer BIG dollars needlessly..

I won't get into a pissing match over this because the article is in fact about the school closing. Standing around smoking cigarettes and dictating orders does not in my opinion mean that "HE" did all the work. I am all about giving credit where credit is due but come on...
