Too bad Atkins couldn't believe in rational thought and external referent instead of this women's intuition BS. If you have a problem with the document, tell us what it is. Don't go on about your vague premonitions no one gives a crap about anyway. It's the same stupidity she pulled last week, and it didn't fly then either.

Did I just read that the greedy local merchant's strangle hold will be loosened on our poor little low income necks? Thank you Mr. Arkley for bringing some sense and preservation to our community.

Finally! This is all about jobs & progress.

Larry Glass & Linda Atkins (or is it Larry Atkins & Linda Glass, they vote like twins) are just pandering to the Just Say No to Everything crowd.

Having come to Humboldt county a decade ago. I previously shopped exclusively at Home Depot because there was no other choice until Lowes came in. I have to say I appreciate the knowledge I found at our local stores. The big boxes definitly have a lack of knowledgable staff. Prices at the big boxes are not that much lower. I'll continue to shop local. But I have nothing against those clamoring for the big box. And I do agree that something needs to be done on the balloon track area.

Thank God the rest of the City Council finnaly grew a set and told Glass to kiss off. We may have hope for this town yet. Larry, go back to smoking that stuff you raise and keep suing folks, maybe you can buy yourself a boat and float away some day.

Larry Glass proved two things last night:

1) He doesn't understand anything about CEQA
2) He hasn't read or does not comprehend the Marina Center EIR.

How did that idiot get elected?

Downtown Eureka has been dieing since the 70s. Mainly because of the anti growth anti job attitude of the people in charge.Anything that puts a lot of people to work in a place desperate for jobs needs to happen and those that stand in the way need to dissapear from power.

How many times does Larry Glass have to ask the same question and get the same response that it is in the EIR? He kept making himself look unprepared and almost trying to convey to his constituents, which Mr. Hutchinson quickly shut him down for not having to do with any of this. Glad to see that the city council has the foresight finally to push something good for the city through.

Humbug....it is not about Home Depot. If you don't want to shop there then don't! It is about developing a piece of property that has been long overdue. We need to get it cleaned up and move on. We have spent way too much time and energy on the negative...has anyone else brought forth a better alternative and financial backing..NO! It will be a long process, so let's get moving in the right direction. This is definitely a start.

I was embarrassed last night. Can you imagine how we look to anyone not already in the know about this Pierson sponsored three ring circus? "Common Sense" Seriously, Linda Atkins thinks (with her high fallutin' "common sense") her gut is to be considered above 100 educated professionals who actually UNDERSTAND the process. We now know what her qualifications are...gut instinct...impressive!

You can't really blame Linda Atkins. She has only lived her a few years & doesn't realize how manipulated she is by Bill Pierson.

Larry Glass just likes to get his name in the media.

Pete, just stay the hell away from Eureka. We actually want a compact urban city that this economically viable. Your intentions are self serving left wing extremism.
You are going to loose very badly in court, especially if the City is following the Regional Board's lead on the clean-up. Pay Keeper has lost any crediblity it may have had. You may want to consider cheaper local acts for your birthday bashes, cause you clowns are going to be broke very soon.

I'm so glad that the comments on this page are in support of development of this site. I've lived here my entire life and seen nothing but a downward spiral in terms of economy. Everything has been about holding back big business and not growing small business. Bringing in Box stores is just a small step in bringing some sort of economy back to this region. Now if we could only follow it up with some sort of long term job market involving a skilled trade and not just retail I would be content to stay in this area.

Pete Nichols, Larry Glass, Linda Atkins, Chris Kerrigan, Bonnie Neely, Mark Lovelace and who are the other anti growth people stopping anybody from doing business here? This project will create jobs now! If 90% of the Eureka citizens want it, why are they fighting? They may lose some power in the next elections.

As a conservative i still hope this project fails. The last thing we need in abomination, oops i meen obamanation, is more growth, more jobs, and more tax revenue. We need failure so conservatives can regain control. Come on liberals we finally agree on something lets work together for this defeat. Keep making the point about traffic and urban decay. Ya they have nothing to do with environmental impacts but who cares. It throws a monkey wrench into the process and further delays it. Try a lawsuit saying the interem cleanup negates the eir and a new one is needed. Just do anything you can to delay this at least another year to midterm elections in November 2010. Then we can finally defeat healthcare.
Keep up the fight libs!!

You've been quite a gadabout in recent weeks, but as the Sun enters Capricorn at the Solstice, you start to yearn for the comforts of home. You might even be tempted to cancel some forthcoming social events, so you can flop on your sofa and catch your breath.
