Not time to develop yet. Gotta wait until crime is so out of control and the area run down that we'll be thankful for the developers to come in. Just like what they did to Ewa Beach. Gentrification is an age-old tactic of Linda's people. Use our own welfare system to steal our property.

Okay Mr. Mayor...time to clear the beaches. The Guv did her part coming up with the emergency funding. Now it's the City's turn to "guide" the homeless gently to the shelters.

The taxpayer homeowners and residents of Waianae really want public access to the beaches again. It's time....

there are no easy answers, but at least this is something.
to anyone who hasn't been to the leeward coast (esp. maile, waianae and makaha) recently, take a drive and really take a good look. it is a sad sight. i feel for the homeless, but do they need to live on the beach? i've always felt that the state could turn some agri land to a shelter. the beaches on the leeward coast are not public access anymore.

The Coalition of Christian Churches led by Pastor Boo Sopares did a wonderful job with his transiitonal housing project. Great pre-school there run by the elite Good Shepherd Luthern School. The lucky famileis will have every chance to gain skills and education.

By the way, the Star Bulletin is wrong. The project is heavily funded by private donrs. They ought to get their facts straight.

Where else but in Hawaii can you pitch a tent and live for free 365 days a year? It's about time the rest of the island got a chance to enjoy what is left of the beaches. Only in Waianae are the beaches so heavly used and abused.

I hope that everyone that are staying at the coastline will be taken out of there, and into the shelters. We have to make our beaches clean and given back to the public. I believe that the homeless people uses the beaches as a bathroom too! It has to stop.We have to keep our aina clean.Okay all of you in government...HELP THE HOMELESS GET IN!

i know you are joking but why is it always us? get these lazy bums out of here. call the police when they start to filter back on the beaches. be proactive for the community. it is not fair to the hardworking people of this community and readers of these blogs don't stereotype waianae by the idiots that are here contaminating our beaches. let's help build a shelter in kahala.

have to say that the Westside could be just awesome, why is it that on all of the other islands the leeward sides are the huge tourist mega resorts good or bad. Look at Maui Wailea, and Waikaloa, Kona on the Big Island. I know I bash the Westside but darn is there some real beauty on that side of the island. Rise up and take back your community, only when you do will you reap the rewards.

Imagine, a Republican governor with the kind of compassion that used to be found in Democrats. While Democrats push the homeless around like stray dogs Gov. Lingle puts money where her heart is, God Bless, Linda.

We have to get our beaches back! Sorry that I'm only a 5-year resident of Waianae coast but my opinion is still valid. It's not right that I have to apologize for Hawai'i to our visitors and guests when they get here.

The Agri land would better for them, with some appropriate facilities, to grow at least their own food. If they don't like that then educate'm and boostrap them back to the community as productive citizens!

Good job Pastor Boo and the Christian Coalition who made good on their word. I remember them doing outreach for the community and also reaching out to those that lived on the beach.
I pray that the homeless take this opportunity to live as they should with a firm roof over their heads and a safe place for the kids to live indoors. Thank you Governor Lingle for doing something about it, even if it's just temporary.

Why not hand the homeless keys to brand new cars? The hard working people continue to struggle, while the homeless get $16 million dollar shelters. Put a bib on these lazy people and feed them baby food and formula. Don't forget to burp them after eating.

It's simply a shame the Mayor and the city do so little to help the homeless. Oh, that's right, the city "cleans up" the parks to make it necessary for the state to fix the problem. Good job Moof! Add that to your next political agenda!
