Hearing scheduled in teacher's case
After three years, a criminal case pending against a Randolph County teacher accused of having sex with a former student might finally come to a conclusion Aug. 14. At a hearing set for 2:30 p.m. that day, Randolph Superior Court Judge Peter Haviza is scheduled to announce whether he will accept a plea agreement offered in the case of Shannon J.

Richard "Dick" Johnson
<![CDATA[Lynn, Ind. - Richard Edwin "Dick" Johnson, 87, of Lynn, was born to life on earth on November 25, 1926, and began his eternal life with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 1, 2014. He was a US Army veteran and later worked at Miller Brothers Hardware. He served 16 years in law enforcement, including two terms as Randolph County Sheriff. Dick was a long-time member of the Lynn Lions Club as well as the American Legion. He sang for 25 years in the Barber Shop Chorus in Union City. He was a member of the Civil War Round Table, where he frequently gave historical talks. In his retirement, he served as a docent at the Levi Coffin House and museum in Fountain City. Dick served several terms on the Lynn Town Board. Dick was a birthright Quaker and was active in the Lynn Friends Church his entire life. He was clerk of the monthly meeting for 25 years, led congregational singing and went on a mission trip. Dick was known for his love of his faith, his family, his friends, gardening, bicycling, politics, woodworking and vacationing in Florida. Dick will be missed by his daughters, Suzanne (Johnson) Hays and Jennifer (Johnson) Battista; son, Joe Dale Johnson; five grandchildren, Autumn (Hays) Krepop, Kyle Hays, Berkley LaPorte, Willow Battista and Grady Battista; one great-grandchild, Brody Hays. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Edith (Clements) Johnson; 1st wife, of 36 years, Arlene (Ozbun) Johnson; 2nd wife, of 21 years, Arlene (Snyder) Johnson; brothers, Dudley and Anthony Johnson. Pastor Keith Vincent will conduct a funeral ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, in the Lynn Friends Church. Interment with fraternal law enforcement honors will be in Spartanburg Cemetery. Family & friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at the church.
