TN Eyes Billions in Education Funds

Full story: MyFoxMemphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - They are not young adults cynically categorized by aging "Baby Boomers" as representing succeeding generations of "X, Y or Z." Instead, the increasing number of incarcerated black males eighteen years old and under, in Tennessee and across the nation, makes them in the eyes of society "Generation Lost." Shelby County Sheriff Mark ...

<quoted text>In her profile, Lanana (aka, Banala) claims to love America, and yet also claims to be a member of the Hawaiian Kingdom. That seems to be somewhat of a contradiction. It's that Superwoman thing, trying to be all things to all people. Same goes for her preoccupation with her own "nice long dark blondish hair" (also from her profile). In other words, she's the best of both worlds -- Kanaka Maoli, yet haole, all in one.
Must be nice up there on that pedestal, so "it." (gag)
She has always been nice to me. Many people on these forums use some pretty bad words.

At first I expected the worse from her, but I was wrong. Anyway as a non-Hawaiian I don't expect to join the Hawaiian Kingdom any time soon.

Yet Hawaiian Kingdom does heat up the forums and that is what it’s all about, right?

Thanks

I suppose really no matter who we vote for after a while their all the same.

I am one of those that voted for Bush. Also for our Mayor so if I voted for Quentin Kawananakoa then it can't get any worse, can it?

Why is this campaign in the media not about issues---the issues are important---for example does Obama really think the UN will act against Russia's invasion? Why isnt that question asked OR IS IT THAT PERSONALTIES WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO SELL NEWSPAPERS?

I imagine if you only read this article that would be your perspective. But the media is somewhat replete with articles about both candidates healthcare stances, the Georgian crisis, etc.

The question about his vacation is only being asked in this article, which makes sense since it is a local paper primarily concerned with local issues. May I suggest more major news outlets like ABC News http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story... , or Reuters http://www.reuters.com/article/europeCrisis/i...

Once again... discuss the TOPIC INTELLIGENTLY instead of resorting to argumentatum Ad hominem.

Thanks for an intelligent response.
As for sensitivity to local people... has he mentioned all of those who contributed to Hawai'i or just a select few? So far he only thanked a select few.
(And FWIW I am for neither Obama or McCain. To me neither is good enough to represent this great country of ours but I like to know other people's opinions.)
I was hasty in other post, I may be wrong correct me if I am. a few days before Obama and his family arrived some homeless people were removed along with what ever belongings they had. These people were living under a bridge at Kailua beach. Don't get me wrong I am not putting this on Obama, just wondering if this may have an inkling to why you are bringing up the Homeless, I work with them on the leeward coast. Yes there are those on drugs, Mental health issuse, but the ones that really hit me are those who work and have jobs but cannot afford to live in a home and buy the nessesities like food, gas, pay water and electric. I understand I (think) where you are taking this.

To Lana I was not being sarcastic about being impressed. I have Daughters, Beauty is skin deep stupid is forever, Education is key and Lana you seem very educated to that I say right on from my heart. It makes me very happy when I see people do well for themselve, through hard work and stong support, I am suspecting that you have much support in that you were able to make positive choices for yourself. Keep up the good work.

Funny. You say you are glad that Bobby isn't mentioned anymore, but you go ahead and make a point of mentioning him as "Obama's Punahou Buddy." I wonder where your loyalties lie, Friend.

I "care" enough because I'm tired of the saint Obama crap the "news" papers are trying to cram down our throats.

The only "change" that is going to happen is....

I believe that if for nothing else than purely pragmatic reasons, candidates avoid the issues because they want to get elected. In the end, my guess is that most people vote first by party affiliation, and secondly on personalities and image, with issues being last. The average voter is poorly informed as to the issues, and will choose the candidate that he/she likes, then find that candidate's supporting stances on issues to justify and rationalize his/her choice (like buying a car).

Newspapers do have their own political and financial agendas, but also can only print what the politicians "provide" by way of taking clear stances on issues. It's often in the politicians' best interests to be vague, as they often have more to lose than gain by taking clear stands. I think they themselves rationalize it by saying to themselves that the main way that they can make big changes is to actually get in office first, so the ends justify the means.

No. Actually, the article is discussing Obama and his relationships.
If you want to open every Obama article as an opportunity to talk of Obama's presidential platform, then you have to open the floor to talking about McCain and the presidency as well.
Otherwise, you need to focus on the topic of the article. If you really want people to stay focused, then you should too.
Do as you say, not as you do.
Again... please stick to the TOPIC so that we can have INTELLIGENT discussions.

Again you resort to argumentatum ad hominem because I discuss Obama and he is the topic of the article.

Again please stick to the TOPIC so that we can have INTELLIGENT discussions.

As far as being a citizen of the Hawaiian Kingdom and the U.S. it's called having dual citizenship.

Yep... that was one of my points. While he and other rich people and other politicians are vacationing there are thousands of people who are homeless. Me personally I know hundreds of people who cannot afford gas or food and have to do without one or both. I was referring to the working poor... which is really the middle class who work so that politicians like him can take vacations.

My question was basically... what about them? It's refresing to know that other people care.
