How refreshing!! Although, I'm not naive enough to expect total cooperation and purity. If these new councilors can acheive even 50% of their goal, that's a BIG improvement over the current embarassing group. May this city enjoy a renewal of integrity, ethics, fiscal responsibility and civic progress and may God bless their efforts.

Am I the only one a little uncomfortable listening to Murphy speak. Is that his real tone or is this a recent thing to sound like a Kennedy for votes??

Time will tell and we will have 2 years to listen.... We will also see this big change and the voters have spoken theory. There are 3 challengers that were elected and 6 incumbents that are still here.

If Mr. Sheehan's job at 85k plus benefits is so important then bring a motion back to find the money to pay for it. If the primary was a concern then what do you cut to pay for it? It may be about change, however, the economy and a budget that is painful will still be there. Everyone deserves a job, but we also get evaulated on performance. So for the 6 incumbents, the majority of the people supported them, especially for balancing a budget with no money and it's only going to get worse before it gets better.

Is it Bubba the Beast or Mickey to the Left???? The self served hater of Lowell who doesn't have a solution or answer to anything? Your intelligence shines when you compare life with win or loose. It takes to much energy to spread hate or believe in your nonfiction. The city was moving forward before this election, with economic development, the credit goes to those councilors. So Bubba or Mickey Mouse I didn't loose anything.

I think positive unlike you and I can't wait to hear your posts in the upcoming months. You will be bashing someone new and we just have to remember it's all in good fun right BUBBA.

With a little help from your friends at the, "Sun" which reaches millions. You have to give them credit they had an agenda and got the results for what they were set out to get, but at what cost? We are made to believe the councilors still serving are corrupt because they didn't decide to investigate the funding for AS or to have a primary? The A.S. issue was a fight between Mr. Kazanjian and Mr. Milinnazo and I was shocked to hear what both had to say to each other. Mr. Milinnazo wanted an investigation after the vote and he accused his fellow councilors of wrong doing even when the city lawyer disagreed. He made accusations against Ms. Mercier and then apologized to her. He was quite upset after this meeting and soon after we had an ivestigation. Is he right to get answers, of course, but don't bring down the other's because you think it's personal. So if anyone thinks these cuts are personal take a good look at the budget before you throw out attacks on how councilors voted. I would like you to try to sit on a board making these types of cuts with no revenue or funding? Mr. Milinnazo wasn't so verbal when it came to defend the 48 workers laid off and the ones left to do a job of 2? Mr. Kazanjian is gone but the after effect is still there.

I don't buy that this paper only reports the news. They tainted many who are serving now and even had a councilor secound guess his choice on running for mayor. You don't need to be disrespectful to make your point but sometimes you need to speak your mind to be heard. What happens in the past makes changes in the future and there is still many questions not answered. If we don't get to the truth every problem and vote will be questioned and pointed to the present councilors and this is what makes people say politics as usual.

The most talked-about moment of the evening came when Councilor Rita Mercier was asked about controversial comments she made earlier this year that her vote to eliminate funding for the assistant to the city manager job held by Andy Sheehan was personal and not done purely as a means of trimming the budget.

"I gave him an education in how to be more receptive to people and in doing so, he got a job in Westford (as assistant town manager) making $20,000 more," she said. "He should be sending me a thank-you card. That is what I did for this gentleman."

the economic development activity should rightly be credited to this administration and DPD. Imagine Rita & Bud..presenting to a multi national organization to lure them to Lowell! HA..

Rita claims to have given Andy Sheehan an education in how to be more receptive to the people. Speaking of education, hey Rita I would like to compare your high school transcripts to Mr. Sheehan's. I would ask for your college transcripts, but I tend to doubt you made it past the 12th grade.

Spelling are you kidding me- I can type faster then you with my eyes shut, using my toes. As for spelling please look at your english- every word is low caps and you spell I as i. Again see you in a few Bubba or is Mickey Mouse you will be complaining the world for your problems. This is what you do best and the only thing you can do. It was easy this time because Mr. Kazanjian was such an easy target.

I must be a laid off worker? Please show us how smart you are by telling us what your occupation is? Explain Economics, Cherry Sheets, and Budgets? If you are so intelligent as you claim please tell me things that can be done to turn the economy around and bring back jobs. What procedures would you take to fix a problem. Don't bother, in your eyes its to blame the easiest target and hope the next guy can mop it up for you.

Ms.Mercier is very smart and went to NDA in Tyngsboro for high school. And her transcripts I am sure are very good. I was at UMASS Lowell during Mr. Meehan's inag. when she spoke as Mayor of your fine City. Ms.Mercier was the best speaker at the party. She was much much better than Speaker of the House Ms.Polosi D-Calf. I don't know Mr.Sheehan but Ms.Mercier got our attention and she represented your City to the highest standards. Believe me, I do not come from Lowell and when I heard her speak I was amazed because of all the things I have read about her. She connected with us UMASS students and made the City of Lowell look like a place I would be happy to call home. Sorry to say Ms.Mercier believes in treating people like people and not laughing at them when they are at their lowest (getting layed off). I wish she was on the board in my Town.

It was made up of many variables,"not done purely as a means..." When you laugh at people being laid off that's pretty sad and I hope AS learned there is a time place for everything.
Ms. Mercier was asked this question during her campaign and with her answer she topped the ticket. Why- she may not have a PHD which is not needed, however, you can't deny her leadership and her loyalty to all the people. You don't spend hours with seniors, calling back voters, attending every city promotion and fundraisers for the disadvantage for your own agenda. I know its hard to believe, but many people see the good and it's a wonderful feeling when you smile and someone smiles back. So put aside the Mr. Sheehan issue and tell me what she hasn't done for the residents of Lowell? You will have to dig deep.
