Dead ducks have city residents crying foul

It was a sunny day at the Riverwalk in Lowell. A beaver swam in the river near a sandbar, and a mother duck paddled onto shore nearby as her three ducklings checked out something strange.

What kind of sick and twisted person would want to hurt a duck?

I hope these punks get caught, and get the maximum sentence and fine!

I went to lowell high and a lot of students there often bragged about killing the ducks with rocks at the river walk. I've also witnessed a group of boys throwing rocks, aiming at ducks and ducklings. Something needs to be done, it's extremely upsetting

i say people go down there and when these kids show up , throw rocks at them and see how they like it, I wish I would see a kid doing that, I bust them in the head with a good sized rock and send them off to there mommies crying?

LOL. The sad thing is, I was thinking the same thing. Well more of I wonder how they would like it if people just started throwing rocks at them.

I walk the Riverwalk everyday also for exercise and a bunch of times I have seen hawks trying to grab ducks.

Before we assume humans are killing the ducks, first make sure the hawks aren't doing it.

People are witnessing kids throwing rocks - it isn't an assumption

It would be great to see these punks just walking around minding their business as these ducks do and get hit in the skull with a rock. LOL!

I was on the Riverwalk this weekend with my husband and our dogs - as alarming as seeing dead ducks lying all over the place is, what was even more disturbing was the amount of syringes strewn about on the sidewalk, not to mention the 3 people we saw passed out on benches in the middle of the day.
Animal Cruelty is incredibly wrong, not to mention illegal, but blantant drug use is too, and both issues should be addressed by the Police.

Looks like a public stoning of these offending 'yutes' would be appropriate. I'll be glad to handle ticket sales.

The police can't be everywhere all the time, they rely on responsible citizens to give them a heads-up when laws are being broken. If you witnessed what you claim, then a simple call to the police would have been a reasonable action. I have walked on the Riverwalk several times a week and have never witnessed 'syringes strewn about' and people laying on the benches...what time of day did you witness this? I'll gladly go back and investigate for myself and if I witness this I will certainly notify police, that is what they're there for.

I encourage people to walk the river, and look for such violations and inform the police.

I am going to be watching out for this, and you bet your bottom dollar I am calling it in!

These sick individuals need to be locked up!

and yet another reason I refuse to walk the riverwalk. between the teens gone wild, the infestation of junkies and the rude and oblivious skaters (rollerblades, skateboards) and bikers...whats the point of going anymore. Id rather walk the track at the high school or park its a 100% safer there.

To "Starr"-- not sure what you are talking about... I walk the Riverwalk daily, and it can be very picturesque. I have never encountered "junkies" or "oblivious skaters"... haha. And the few bikers are rather nice and polite. Visit the Riverwalk any Tuesday evening, and you'll even witness about 100 runners... its a nice thing you're missing out on.

To Starr--
Not sure exactly when you were last on the Riverwalk, but I walk it nearly everyday, and in fact reside in a building on the Riverwalk, and never have to contend with infestation of junkies or the like. Skaters? Bikers? Never a problem.
You are missing out on a good thing, an incredible river, pretty views, and an amazing amount of wildlife.
