Frank, a 45-year-old resident of the Louisville Zoo's Gorilla Forest, takes 15 pills a day, and fellow forest denizen Timmy, who is 49, takes nine a day.

Making sure the aging gorillas get their daily meds is part of the routine of zoo veterinarian Dr. Roy Burns, Gorilla Forest supervisor Roby Elsner and the staff of five that tends to the senior primates.

The red brick Cape Cod style house on the street with neat lawns, small gardens and play sets in the back yards sat empty, two of its occupants dead and the third charged with their murders.

Now, the legal proceedings of 37-year-old Gail Lynn Coontz commence, as lawyers and police tackle a case of a single mother and University of Louisville student charged with shooting her two children.

Coontz was arrested Thursday and charged killing her children before going to the University of Louisville and briefly holding a counselor hostage on the campus. Read more

Hilltoppers' run ends with loss to UCLA, 88-78

The second week of the NCAA Tournament belongs to the bluebloods. UCLA, the ultimate monarchy, got a scare from upstart Western Kentucky University in the West Regional semifinals last night but held on to defeat the Hilltoppers 88-78.

Trinity High collects toys for Jarrett's Joy Cart

Trinity students and faculty collected more than 220 toys for Jarrett’s Joy Cart at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville. Teachers John Kahl ’69 and Jennifer Browning H’06 organized the toy drive in March.
