WORLD AIDS DAY

NextAid is launching its second annual multi-city fundraising campaign, World AIDS Day 2009. The multi-date, multi-city campaign kicks off in San Francisco on November 25 and continues across the country until December 31st.

The Los Angeles event takes place on World AIDS Day, December 1, 7pm at a private home in Culver City. Entertainment includes Louie Vega, DJ Rap, Turntables on the Hudson with DJ Nickodemus, Nappy G with a Brazilian drum troupe, Todd Simon on trumpet, Marques Wyatt and Raul Campos, along with comedians Ben Morrison, Ben Gleib, and Whitney Cummings, and dancers ArcheDream For Humankind, an international blacklight mask theater company that focuses on universal ideas and emotions to promote understanding and compassion.

There will be light food from local restaurants and an open bar. Food sponsors include Akbar cuisine of India, Luna & Larry's Coconut Bliss, Tia’s Bakery, and The Conservatory for Coffee, Tea & Cocoa. Beverage sponsors include Jett Vodka, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Kim Crawford Wines and Purity Organic.

A silent auction will feature ecological and fair trade products and services, photography of Africa, and work from artists of African descent, and NextAid partner organizations will have booths set up on-site including MUD cosmetics and handmade Kawangware bags from the KSCYP kids.

Tickets are $75 before 11/27, $100 after that date. A portion of the proceeds from each of NextAid’s events will go towards two of its current projects in Africa helping AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children.
