The International Hot Rod Associationa held the IHRA No Box Fab 5's over the weekend at Pine Valley Raceway as racers Austin Davis and Derek Lewis came away with the win in the inaugural twin $5,000 to win races. Derek Lewis, from Longview, Texas, claimed Saturday's victory over Tim Ray as Lewis had a 7.139 on a 7.14 elapsed time at 93.63 mph as Ray broke out by .006 at the line.

Gilmer City Council votes against interlocal agreement

The Gilmer City CouncilTuesday voted not to authorize the development of an interlocal agreement with neighboring cities to obtain street improvements. City Manager Jeff Ellington recommended against entering the agreement, conceding that doing so might save money, but citing what he considered several drawbacks to the idea.
