I heard the post office in London is shutting down sometime after the first of the year. They are retiring and laying off all employees.

1) Post office business is bad.
2) Saturday delivery will be cut in most of the country.

It is time for the folks in CC specifically and SE KY generally to get their heads straight and throw the dry county historical status in the dust bin.

It is amazing why on earth so many people would choose to keep themselves in economic difficulties in the 21st century!

The post office is not shutting even if the regional mail processing is moved to Lexington. What they are talking about is consolidating and economizing. Current employees have the option to relocate or pick up other jobs that might be available at the London Post Office IF this actually comes about. Right now it is in study. But realistically, some people -- not everybody -- will lose jobs.

You complain about the cost of a stamp but when the Post Office tries to do things to save money, you complain too. Everybody wants to go to Heaven, nobody wants to die.

Doing away with one day of rural delivery (not necessarily Saturday by the way) would save some money. The only reason this hasn't happened yet is it requires congressional action. That, incidentally, is one of the problems with the working an efficient business model -- much that needs doing doesn't get done until Congress acts which might take a couple of years.

The major issue here is revenue loss to email and on line bill paying (and cell phones with free long distance calls to a lesser extent). Attempts to increase revenue can help but there are limits. That's reality and drives the need to do expense reductions. If you lose 10% of your income (or more) do you continue to live a lifestyle that at 100% of your former expenses? If you are a fool, yes you do. Too many of us are (or were already) living a lifestyle that exceeded our income when things were good. At some point that comes crashing down.

Post Office has to do just what other businesses do. Auto manufacturing falls apart, Aisin has to do lay offs. Simple as that. You don't keep people on the job that don't have work to do.

who really needs mail delivery 6 days a week anyway? most days is just junk mail. the only places that really need daily mail delivery is businesses and quite a few of them just get it 5 days anyway. Saturday deliveries should be cut out either way. They could probably eliminate another day of residential delivery and be fine.
The post office is a cash cow. It does not make money, it doesn't even break even really. It is a service that over time, will likely be a shell of itself. I hate that London will lose jobs due to the restructuring but it may be necessary. I don't think the whole office will close, just the processing jobs. They will still have some sorting and the customer service functions.

I think what hurts the mail bad is because everyone pays there bills by phone or online and opts out to have statements sent to them .People send e-mails instead of sending letters and cards by us mail.I think if it was not for e-bay the post offices all over the U S would be worse than they are now.Thank God for e-bay. It would be terrible if we never got no mail on Saturdays , it is so boring on Sunday when we dont get none.

I guess London makes decisions for the postal service now? I am sure the postal service didn't make this decision.

Who are you to judge how a person spends there time?

Seems as though many nosey people in this country want to jump on those whom you feel do not spend time the way YOU think is correct! I do a lot of stuff that most would consider a waste of time, but, my feeling is that what may be a waste of time to you is not to me!

Let's get something straight people! The way anyone spends time, although you may not agree, is not "wrong" because it is not your time but mine!

Rather then troll these forums and look for people to cast stones at (all over these forums), why don't people go out and play with their children? Or grand children? Or watch TV? Truth is, it's none of my business what you do with your time! People need to stop thinking they know best for others and look in the mirror from time to time!

The mentality kills me!

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Taurus

It's important that you leave yourself plenty of room to manouvres during the weeks ahead, as Mercury turns retro today, especially when it comes to making decisions and airing your opinions to the world. You need to be as flexible as possible right now, otherwise you could find that you've boxed yourself into a corner and have to do some serious back-tracking. You need to consider all points of view and not just your own.
