Passed in 2 Other Places Recently: Will Landis hitch to liquor-by-drink wagon?
“We felt like with the development that's come in and around Landis, it would be an economic development tool”
With growth comes the likelihood of liquor sales.
At least that's the message voters and leaders in the area's small towns seemed to convey this week.
On Monday, the Landis Board of Aldermen in Rowan County voted 3-1 to let residents decide May 6 on whether to allow restaurants to serve liquor by the drink.
On Tuesday, just across the Stanly County line, Locust residents held such a liquor vote, deciding by a 3-to-2 margin to allow liquor-by-the-drink sales and the sale of liquor at Alcohol Beverage Control stores. Read more

This week I have a story to tell you, and it's got about everything you could want in a story: danger, bravery, a damsel in distress and a happy ending.
It's a true story, told to me by Carolyn Fink of Georgeville.
Earlier this month, Carolyn and her husband had reason to celebrate when their daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Sandy Kee, presented them with a new granddaughter, Morgan. She and her parents left the hospital Jan. 9, two days after her birth.
After just a couple of hours at home, Morgan's family noticed her lips and the area around her mouth were turning blue. Amy called the doctor, and they were told to bring the baby to the office immediately. If Morgan got worse, the nurse said, they should call for emergency help. Read more
