The National Weather Service issued a warning today that conditions in neighboring counties are ripe for wildfire.

A fast-moving wildfire burning near Lake San Antonio had scorched 2,000 acres and forced the evacuation of several ranches in south Monterey County on Wednesday.

Firefighters are battling a wildfire that burned more than 2,000 acres, destroyed two sheds and caused the evacuation of 20 nearby ranch-style homes since Wednesday afternoon in south Monterey County, officials said.

Fire officials say a fast-moving wildfire burning in a rural area of Monterey County has consumed about 2,000 acres, or about 3.1 square miles.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Department is reporting the arrest of Stephen Pura of Lockwood following a traffic stop at 7:48 p.m. Monday at Lockwood-Jolon and Paulson roads in Lockwood.
