Final days of bridge filled with memories

Property owners within the 1,500-foot clear zone may stay in their homes but may not go outdoors in the hour prior to the blast at 8 a.m. River traffic will be halted and the public may view the explosion from the new U.S. 60 Tennessee River Bridge or from Delta Road on the Livingston County side of the river.

<![CDATA[Clyde Grimes LIVINGSTON, Ken. - Clyde Grimes, age 93, formerly of Richmond, died Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. He was born on February 14, 1921, in Mershons, Kentucky, to Beverly Patrick and Della Robinson Grimes.Clyde was raised in Kentucky, lived in Richmond for many years, and moved back to Kentucky where spent the remainder of his life. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. While in the Army, Clyde served as a cook and a truck driver in the Philippines and New Guinea and was in five major battles. He was a former employee of DeBolt Concrete Company and retired from the Richmond Sanitation Department in 1983. Clyde was a member of Teamsters Local #135. He was an avid auto racing fan and enjoyed gardening and taking care of his yard. Clyde had a keen since of humor and loved his family dearly. Survivors include his wife, June Grimes of Livingston, Kentucky; daughters, Phyllis Tyra of Richmond and Marge (Michael) Sweet of Richmond; step-daughter, Phyllis Steele of Kentucky; step-son, Victor (Debbie) Franciso of Kentucky; two granddaughters, Gina Owens of Centerville, and Jennifer (Charlie) North of Centerville; two great-granddaughters, Krissie and Lindsey; two great-grandsons, Korey and Justyn; great-great-grandson, Kurtie; great-great-granddaughter, Madison; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Grimes who died in 1983; parents; granddaughter, Jessica Tyra-Cline; brothers, Andrew, Pearl, and Ebb Grimes; and sister, Doris Chambers. Visitation for Clyde Grimes will be from 12 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. James E. Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to: Reid Hospital Foundation for the Hospice Program, 1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374. Laurel County sheriff's deputies said a man robbed a gas station where he worked, and the attendant he robbed apparently is his brother.
