Howard J. "Jack" Elstro

<![CDATA[Richmond, Ind. - Howard J. "Jack" Elstro, age 86, of Richmond, died Thursday evening (July 3, 2014) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Richmond on June 22, 1928 to Howard and Mary Agnes Lahrman Elstro and had lived here all of his life. He was a 1947 graduate of Richmond High School and worked for Avco until they closed in 1972. He then worked for Dunham Lehr/Farmhand and then as a realtor with Big Hill GMAC. Jack was a current member of Richmond City Council on which he had served since 1968. He was very active in community affairs serving on numerous boards and committees. He was an Eagle Scout and a Sagamore of the Wabash. In 2003, Mayor Shelly Miller issued a proclamation establishing "Jack Elstro Day" and in 2009 he was awarded the Seton Schools Distinguished Graduate Award. Jack was a member of Holy Family Church and of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his daughter Carol (Kenneth) Reynolds McCashland of Liberty; sons, John Howard (Cris) Elstro of Lima, Ohio, Mike (Janet) Elstro of Richmond and Tim (Vicki) Elstro of Richmond; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His wife, Joan Loschiavo Elstro, died December 28, 1991. In addition to his parents, a sister, Clara Rodal, and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Ralph Elstro are also deceased. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday (July 8, 2014) in Holy Family Church. Burial will be in Saint Mary Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday (July 7, 2014) from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seton Catholic Schools, 240 South 6th Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374. Police: Juvenile crashed while fleeing officers

<![CDATA[NORTH LIBERTY, Ind. (AP) -- Police in northern Indiana say a juvenile driving a stolen truck crashed it while being chased by officers. Police say the chase began in Marshall County and continued into St. Joseph County when the juvenile side-swiped another truck on Indiana 23 near the town of North Liberty about 3 a.m. Monday. The truck rolled over once and ended up in a field along the highway about 10 miles southwest of South Bend. WNDU-TV and WSJV-TV report the juvenile didn't have a driver's license and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the other truck wasn't hurt.
