Child abuse has continued to be an issue in the Texas Panhandle. According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the Texas Panhandle had some of the highest reported cases of child abuse in the state last year.

These women, who serve as role models for girls, will be honored at the 33rd annual awards banquet March 7. "Through such admirable examples, the girls see that the world is open for them to pursue their own dreams," YWCA President and CEO Nancy Wesson-Dodd said in a news release.
