By listening to Van Duncan's comments on WLOS, I believe that the "investigation" is over! I must say that I am highly disappointed in Van Duncan's comments covering up the blatant threat of the officer to "just go on to the woman's house himself and let her know what she did wrong"....

I do hope that witnesses show up AND business owners bring security tapes to clear this up.

Don't HONK at ANYONE in Asheville!!

You have that correct. It is annoying and it can cause you more problems than one would need. The same goes for flipping you lights at the ding-dongs that refuse to turn on lights at dusk, night and during the raining times.

With more and more law abiding citizens obtaining CCW, this type of thug behavior by police will be self limiting.
Even if an officer identifies themselves, the badge does not give them the authority to behave criminally, and the police shoot more innocent people each year THAN IN ALL THE YEARS OF CIVILIAN SHALL ISSUE CCW.

I wonder if that little gestapo who was "off duty" had his gun on him while doing the little road rage.

But of course! Bet he "never leaves home without it"! Never know when a big, bad lady might go 'road rage' on him!

I would hazard a guess that he might just be partaking in those drugs he is around while 'undercover'!

This officer did not even realize he was being transferred to 911. I think it's fortunate for her that he was and I believe those tapes clearly show who was out of control. I don't know what protocol an off-duty officer is suppose to follow if one witnesses an alleged criminal act but I sure don't feel he was doing anything but throwing his weight around. Nor do I feel that she did anything but bruise his ego in front of his family. She handled herself very very well even when given a 911 operator who's responses could have easily set someone off if they were prone to creating drama or trouble. She was clearly shook but had every detail and remained courteous. She is believable to me and I believe her initial reaction to this jerks poor driving skills was exactly what she told the female operator it was.

He certainly set a bad example for his kids if they were in the jeep with him. The thing is, that Duncan better deal with, is that one of his deputies used the Dept to find out where a person lived and threatened to go to her house to do "what", beat her up, assault her, kill her, get in a fight with her husband, what was he going to do at her house? He is a danger to the public with his temper and attitude and needs to be terminated as a deputy, he should not be in law enforcement and Duncan is not serving the citizens of Buncombe County by keeping this nut on the job! His intentions and anger/rage are on tape, that should be enough evidence for termination and/or charges of communicating threats against another citizen.

Exactly and the statement about needing witnesses or surveillance video to further investigate anything is nearly mute and covering up a much larger problem here.

All the sheriff or anyone else needs to do to verify the anger and threatening nature of this power mad Deputy is review the 911 tapes. They will hear her fear and his anger and threat, the tapes don't lie, can his butt or make him work as a jailer!

If only she could have gotten a video with her car phone, the debate would be settled in her favor.

It was especially chilling to hear the cop say 'she doesn't know who she's dealing with' or something like that -- who does the cop think he is?

Van Duncan lost all my respect with those comments to WLOS. Sounds like the " good ole boy " club still exists !

Some of those exact words were said right here on this forum. Who knows if they came from a friend of LE or actual LE? They are meant to intimidate the general public and it suks.

I also had some respect for Duncan but if he is making excuses for this kind of really bad behavior then perhaps he needs to not be reelected.

She went to WLOS to get the story out, notice this incident happened at 7pm on July 9th, and didn't become public until a few days ago. BCSO and the APD wouldn't give her the time of day, or a report about the incident. She also saw an attorney. The girl IS scared for her life and the safety of her family.

I e-mailed "ross.dillingham@buncomec ounty.org" and he responded, didn't expect that! Others who feel this road rage incident was out of line should also e-mail Dillingham who is the Sheriff Dept's PR person, maybe they will do something?

To protect the Deputy from public outrage! So, let the Sheriff know what you think, bombard him with e-mails, phone calls, etc.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Aries

There are mixed messages flying around in the ether today, so be wary about drawing any concrete conclusions from what happens now. Even though you don't realize it, you may be misreading the signs that someone is sending out, which will lead to complications later on. Be especially careful about indulging in romantic daydreams and then believing them.
