Bradford Paws starts Pet Food Bank
The local pet rescue group, Bradford Paws, is in the start-up stages of having a local pet food bank for helping out those in need. Due to current economic conditions, Bradford Paws is wanting to help out those in need who have pets they want to keep, but are struggling financially to keep.
The following items are being sought for donation:
Adult dog food - dry/canned
Puppy food - dry/canned
Cat/Kitten food - dry/canned
Horse feed
Treats
So far, two local businesses have stepped forward to be drop-off points for donated food.

Scrub-a-dog Fundraiser
Bradford County Paws, pet rescue group, will be holding a dog washing fundraiser on July 11th from 10am til 5pm. The event will be held at Katie Sue's Clip & Dip located at 18536 US 301 North (next to Smith Brother's Body Shop). Dog washes will be done for only $5.00, proceeds will be used for future pet rescues and homeless pets in our community. Hot dogs, drinks and chips will be available, so grab your dog and c'mon down.

Lawtey Recreation Department Yard Sale & Crab Boil
The Lawtey Recreation Department is having a big yard sale event on Thursday May 7 - Saturday, May 9! From 8am - 2pm. Be sure to stop by on Saturday, May 9th as they ill be having a Crab Boil with dinners being sold for $8.00 each. Proceeds from this event will benefit future recreation events. The dinners will include crab, sausage, corn-on-the-cob, boiled potato and boiled eggs. Come by, grab a dinner and browse the wares of the yard sale.

Man Killed in Crash in Bradford County
A man from Jacksonville is dead following a crash on Highway 301. The Florida Highway Patrol says Jess Delossantos Deocampo, 48, was southbound near Lawtey Monday afternoon around 5 when he lost control of his SUV.

Lawtey Recreation Yard Sale Event
The City of Lawtey's Recreation Department is currently seeking donations to offer for sale at an upcoming city yard sale. Proceeds from this yard sale will go towards future recreation events.
The Lawtey Recreation Departments provides various functions for the children in the local area throughout the year. Most of the funding for these events is provided by donations and money raised during fund-raisers such as the upcoming yard sale.
The dates for the yard sale have been set for May 6, 7, and 8th!

2009 City Appointments for Lawtey City Council
On Monday, January 5th, the Lawtey City Council made its annual city department appointments to each of the council members.
For 2009, Lawtey Mayor will again be, Jimmie Scott, Vice Mayor/Water & Sewer Dept will be Wayne Massey. Jeanette Phillips has moved back over the recreation Dept and Carlton Jones handles the Lawtey Fire Dept. George Shuford remains over Streets & Sanitation. Lawtey's Annual Christmas Parade
The 2008 Lawtey Christmas Parade is scheduled for 9am on Saturday, December 20th. Immediately following the parade will be the Lawtey Recreation Dept sponsored Lawtey Christmas Party. The Christmas party will be held at the Lawtey School cafeteria, and will last from after the parade til about 1pm.
