One new fire flamed in the Northwest since Monday and it was quickly contained though the Portland-based fire-fighting coordination center is now reporting on another big blaze that has become a large blaze.

The wolves in the Wedge Wolf Pack are now dining almost exclusively on beef, according to a northeastern Washington cattle rancher.

The decision by state wildlife officials to kill a wolf that had been attacking livestock in northeastern Washington is too little, too late, says the rancher who has suffered losses there since 2007.

A wolf recently killed a calf in Stevens County, and the rancher has permission to shoot the animal if it attacks the Diamond M Ranch's herd again, state officials said.
