Hello, of course when property is sold to non profits who do you think is stuck footing the bill for their taxes??? The people of Latrobe. That is why Mr. Stadler everytime Excela Health, Adelphoi, empty churches, acquire another piece of property they are sucking the town dry.
They are all businesses under the title of being a non-profit organization but anyone who's worked in one knows what it's all about. Yet the people who work in these organizations pay local, state, and Federal taxes?? This could be a big reason. |

I completely agree with you! What has the city done to attract small business to this town. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! They bitch and moan about the loss of taxes, yet they give $40,000 to two non-profit organizations to tear down 3 buildings they the city did not own in the first place. But they are going to receive taxes from that property, right? Wrong! You don't get tax money from non-profit organizations! But I guess when they remove the telephone poles on Lloyd Avenue, with $100,000 of Latrobe taxpayer money, all of our problems will be resolved and the businesses will just flood into town! Our council members have their heads so far up their butt its shameful. They spend money on projects that have no long term value. When is our council going to wake up and realize that if they do not do something soon to attract people and business to this town there will be nothing left to work with! |

To I agree: I know you don't want the "facts" to get in the way of your rant, but the non-profits you are referring pay to the city what is called a PILOT - its a payment in lieu of taxes. What that means is they pay the city its portion of their taxes but it doesn't pay county, school, etc. The idea behind it is these entities benefit from the services the city provides. So genius, while there are a lot of non-profits, the ones you refer to are not. Same with the Weldon Place building. The pay taxes to the city (PILOT). And while we're on the subject, what small business would want to come into a town that looks as delapidated as Lloyd Ave did? You have to make an area attractive for people to want to do business in. But it's so much easier to criticize than to learn the facts!!!

Let me make one corrections, So genius, while there are a lot of non-profits that do not pay taxes, the ones you refer are non-profits that do pay a tax to the city.

Are there raises in the budget for next year ?
how about a freeze due to the economy ? Where are they going to go ? TAX FREE PROPERTIES - STOP THE INSANITY !!! When the money starts to decline.....SORRY.......LAYOFF S !!!!!! |
So if I understand Idea Man correctly what you said is they DON'T pay county, school tax and etc.(whatever that means)
Yet we as individuals on fixed incomes that live in the counties and school districts pay these taxes. These businesses (so called non-profits) should pay also. If people on medicare and fixed incomes (who are not getting a cost of living raise) are expected to pay and have all their lives then isn't it time everyone start pitching in and quit sucking the life out of the communities (counties and school districts) they too reside in. |
And i agree with Raises and taxes TAX FREE PROPERTIES for non profits aren't helping individuals, counties, or school district. and all the etc.'s too.

Apparently I hit a nerve with someone on council! As "delapidated" as Lloyd Avenue looks, spending $100,000+ of taxpayer money to move telephone poles is absolutely ludicrous. As the saying goes "you can't polish a turd". Maybe the city should hire a zoning officer that is going to do their job and go after these people who have "dilapidated" properties in town. As for small business, this town has been going down the crapper for 10+ years and all the while our elected officials (through the years) stood by and did nothing. I sure hope this "PILOT" money that we receive from the non-profits who bought the properties at Chestnut Street and Jefferson Street totals $40,000. By the way, you don't need to use smart ass comments to get a point across. That is just very childish. |
So why don't you post how much each non-profit organization pays the city each year in taxes? Enlighten us all! |
Ok people 1st thing 1st the 100,000 didnt come from city tax payers do your homework. It came from non-profit grants. 2nd you guys keep voting in the same people all the time and when new people do run you bash them on sites like this. also i would like to know how many people on this site own there home and pay taxes I bet alot of you rent. PLEASE!!! Dont bitch do something about it. YOU get mad on sites like this get MAD and run for council or better yet GO TO council meeting and tell them how you feel.
The $100,000 IS Latrobe taxpayer money! It is a matching grant that requires the city to pay $100,000, out of their budget, to get $295,000. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! http://www.cityoflatrobe.com/uploadarea/minut... |

Please sit down with Ron Weimer for a long talk and get the real facts on this and dont read what Rick Stalder tries to spin and make it sound like the tax payers are paying for it. PLEASE LEARN THE FACTS. The truth will set you free.
Also if were true what you say i would give $100. to get $10,000 to make this city a better place. Wow some people are dumb wake up.

He's only in charge of the budget, what the hell would he know! |

I would give $100 to get $10,000 too! The only problem is we're giving $100,000 to get $295,000! I sure as hell don't have that kind of money to throw away and neither does the city! You know, with all the non-profits in town who don't pay taxes! |
I agree that non-profits should pay something, but that's not a decision that the city can make. The city doesn't have that power. My point was that at least the city is getting SOME tax dollars from SOME of these non-profits. Non-profit status is something that goes far beyond the power of local city government. We all need to talk to our state and federal legislators. This is where the change on non-profit taxation neeeds to come from.
WOW!!! I can't believe you would make such a statement. Do you realize all that man (Ron) has done for this this city is WASTE our tax dollars on pet projects that went no where? Yeah Lloyd Ave, six lights and DONE. Phase two is NEVER going to happen. I would love to "sit down" with Ron and have a long talk about the twenty plus projects he keep telling council about with no results but keeps asking for our tax dolars to do them. Lloyd Ave, comprehensive plan, walking paths... You say Rick spins the truth, I NEVER heard a actual, factual word from Ron. And yes I do attend council meetings and have a first hand account. So, do us all a favor and PLEASE get your facts right before you post again. |
Who said "non-profits," do not pay taxes? I know first hand as we are non profit and make a check out to IRS for taxes quite often.
You worry about $100,000 you pay in taxes however you dont seem to care that almost $100,000 of your tax money is going to a city manager each year for what. So how many years ago did the Lloyd ave project start? 4 or 5 years ago so now do the math $100,000 over 5years for a project and close to $500,000 over 5 years for a city manager and we are still in the same boat. I think you need to worry were your tax money really going.
Who said they didn't care about what the city manager makes. Now your just trying to justify wasting money on Llyod Ave. Furthermore, where do you think the the rest of the money for the failling project is comming from? YOUR COUNTY TAX DOLLARS!!! Five years, you're right, and what is there to show for it. Six, in my opinion, ugly lights! If you want to talk salaries, don't forget the chief and the slumlord. I do worry where my tax dollars are really going. That's why the council shouldn't support wastefull spending. How's that revitalization project going that is sucking tax dollars? Oh wait, when I sit down and talk to Ron he'll let me know. |
