Good riddance to a lousy Chief of Police. We can only hope now that someone much better will begin to show some actual leadership in the Police Department.

Chief Romero seems to have done some good things, but we still have an arrogant police force, some of whose members have abused their power. I hope we get a new chief who is more willing and able to change the culture, but I am not hopeful. We need a civilian review board.

Responsive to the public what joke. The first time this guy went on tv, was last night to announce his retirement. Remember when lc was being held hostage by some nut job wanting to shoot everybody. We never even got a press conferance, to assure the public. What have we heard about the officer envolve in the accident and left his handgun unsecured behind. The officer was then hired by the county in the same position, only to have another incident a few months later. Thats what is called discipline carried out by great leadership. Yeah there is alot to like with this guy. Also cophater watch what you wish for! This is a tough job and we have many on the force that do it daily in and excellant manner. Salute them!!!!!!!!

To all the negative posters, if you think you can do a better job just try it. Being a member of law enforcement is a thankless job for long hours and in Las Cruces it seems even more thankless.

Chief Romero enjoy your retirement and make sure that "honey do list" doesn't continue to grow! ;-)

Thanks Chief Romero for your 30+ years of outstanding public service to each member of
our community. Your individual efforts have
made Las Cruces a much better place to live
for each of us. Although Police Officers do
not get near the credit they deserve - you
have patrolled our streets, led LCPD and provided
the best possible service to your community that
could be expected.

Congrats on your well deserved retirement and thanks for a job well done.

angieleaforme,

Sounds to me like the long hours pay lots of OT. I'd say that the people have paid for this extra hard work.

You know that cops are nothing more than over-sized hall monitors.

Keep running red lights for all those "silent calls to the donut shop". Keep speeding to see how fast the cruiser will go. Continue to harrass the good people of Las Cruces. And remember, you work fo thees people. Their taxes pay your salary. They are your customers. They are your boss.

W/r to expecting all kinds of recognition. You hardly deserve it and neither does this weight.

Have a nice day.

Go stop a speeder.

107K a year for that small of a city??? Police chiefs in major U.S. cities barely make that much. What a waste.

From Las Cruces, New Mexico, where the police wear shoulder patches representing the Resurrection from John 20, vehicles are so decorated, the police building and classrooms proment the same examples of prejudice toward the community.

Looks like the Old Guard is leaving the ship by leaps and bounds. Now the City Manager Moore can hire a Chief that believes in the Constitution and the rights of all citizens who the police supposedly represent. You cannot represent one religous group while wearing public uniforms.

You have tried to have it removed from my uniform patch once and have failed completely. Do you really think that a new Chief will bow to your foolish request?? The LCPD does not cater to you. You do not live in our City, in case you haven't noticed. When you come into our City, you can look away from our patches. If you do not like what is on them, stay away. It should be very simple. Even for a person of your substandard education.

Thinking as a cop, you should have respect for the citizens who pay your wages. You work for the people. Don't forget this. Ever. You sound like a guy who thinks you are doing favors for the citizens. You are an employee of the people. Everyone is expendable, even you.

If you're a typical Taurean you value both your emotional and physical security, and often tend to restrict your actions accordingly.
