Time to stop blaming dogs for the human problem

Hope the officer is ok.
Perhaps AC should have dealt with this owner quite some time ago and rehomed(with a responsible owner) any of these dogs that passed temperament testing by a qualified canine expert.
If not, they should have been euthanized.
Now all are paying for the irresponsibility of the human.

Is it really necessary to kill all 4 other pit bulls.. What is it, guilt by association?? And this is coming from someone who was attacked by 2 pit bulls at the age of 13, I suffered some pretty bad injuries from multiple bites. I still love Pit Bulls, it's the owner not the dog that is the problem.
It's like putting a roommate on death row for something his mate did. Does not make sense to me.

One of a similar attacks happened yrs ago, her hand was transformed into hamburger. Its sad to see, nothing has changed as far as procedure (go in pairs)or protective gear (steel mesh sleeves and gloves) Again the excuses " what did you do ? to cause my dog to bite you " " my dog has never done this before " "I'm sorry don't know why" My question WHY the owner did not place a MUZZEL OR WRAP A LEASH AROUND THE DOGS MOUTH before the officer took custody ? I love animals, but not animals that attack kill, injure other animals. Let them live their lives out, but stop breeding them. The officer will heal but never the same and good chance disabled.(city wants to cut my little dog b*lls off & I donate to the SPCALA)

I agree the other dogs should be euthanized considering they are from the same owner. What confuses me is the inequality of that determination. The pit bull that attacked the mail carrier in Torrance was ruled to be saved even though he had a history however dogs that had nothing to do with this attack will be put down. Are animal control employees deemed more valuable than mail carriers? It doesn't make sense.

Shamefull! The homeowners should face exuberant fees and jail time! Get your dogs spayed or neutered please! The killing of the four or five dogs and the horrific injuries of the officer is the sole responsibility of the irresponsible, pathetic and ignorant "dog owners". Let's hope that they are shunned by their neighbors and will be forced to sell their house to pay the officer's medical bills since he may have permanent disabilities!!!!

How sad for the dogs and the officer.

I know other dogs "bite" but how many other breeds have a reputation for mauling. There is a difference between the two.

Was this animal control officer alone? If we were talking about a police officer going to arrest someone possibly dangerous, he would at least have a partner with him. Why would any animal control officer be sent by himself to confront the owner of 5 pit bulls? This sounds irresponsible. Also, what kind of weapon do they carry to defend themselves with? This truly is the fault of the dog and owner but what about the city's responsibility to protect their employees?

The dog was smart enough to "change his friendly demeanor." because he realized this man was a messenger of death.

Very irresponsible of the owners too!
They should be fined.
Also, isn't it about time that a law be passed so all dog owners of any breed have their dogs neutered or spayed unless they are licensed breeders?

There are so many horrific situations on
Animal Planet Heroes that its about time!

I can see the homeowner insurance attorney's argument 60/40 fault. A professional entering a dangerous environment ,by choice .
I know other dogs "bite" but how many other breeds have a reputation for mauling. There is a difference between the two.
???

Here is some factual info if facts are of any interest.

36 breeds/types have killed in the U.S.
Those include Westie,Pomeranian,Jack Russell...
That goes up to 52 worldwide.

You might want to ask Newspaper editors why they(for the most part) only report bites from a group of dogs lumped under the generic slang term of "Pit Bulls"?

Very sad that this media hype and spin continues despite the factual info that is available.
All dogs can bite,"maul" and very few have killed despite the millions of dogs living in homes.

Jail time and huge fines for the owner. Maybe other clueless owners will learn from this owners experience.

It is very sad that Pit Bulls have such a bad rap becasue of owner negligence. The statement that the offending dog will be tested for rabies sounds like such a simple procedure. You realize that to test a dog for rabies you must decapitate it and then send it's head into a lab? I mean likely the dog is going to be destroyed regardless. I feel bad for the AC officer. He should have had the owner load those animals inot the truck.

Yet another case of an animal paying the ultimate price because of an irresponsible owner. Personally, I would never own a pitbull, because I'm not the right kind of person. I wish there was a way to regulate ownership of certain breeds, not everyone can handle these dogs. And, of course, there is the problem of poor breeding lines; a very difficult situation.

My heart really goes out to the AC officer. I was bit (just by a small dog, not too serious) as a child and to this day (40 years later) am terrified of stray dogs. The owners should be charged, why didn't they leash up and muzzle the dog if he had agreed to give it up?

I always thought blood was drawn, saliva , urine etc were tested. I was wrong.

I'm sorry that I didn't say, how many other dogs kill or maul. I said how many other dogs have a reputation for doing so.

You may find the occasional dalmatian, or german sheppard, whatever....it's just that, the occassional.

With pits - they have a reputation for it.

Let's just be intellectually honest - even if we disagree.
