Indiana State Police said the three victims were found in October 1983, but could might have been missing as long as a year before their bodies were discovered.

Police in northwest Indiana say three people were killed when a car went off the road into a grassy area, became airborne and struck a tree, then rolled over and landed upside down in a creek.

KENTLAND -- A traffic stop figured in the arrests of six people this week, the Newton County Sheriff's Department reported. Deputy Steven Holder observed a vehicle traveling left of center early Monday. The driver, Kasey L. Cuevas, 23, of Valparaiso was wanted on a Jasper County warrant. A passenger, John J. Wachadlo, 36, of Cedar Lake, was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine. Both were booked into the Newton County Jail. A search warrant was then obtained for a Lake Village residence. As a result, Joshua M. Nelson, 26, was arrested on suspicion of maintaining a common nuisance and possession of cocaine and paraphernalia. Three others were arrested as well. On Wednesday night, jail officials declined to say if the suspects were still in custody.

Ray Carver, dubbed the American Chekov, was referring to the laborers and service workers about whom he so often wrote.
