I'm afraid mr. Mortenson doesn't quite understand the letter he is responding to. Property taxes EVERYWHERE in the state have risen as a direct result of Pawlentys policies. Unfortunately property taxes are regressive and are not based on ability to pay. If our fine Governor would tax progressively none of us would have seen our property taxes raise as our property values lower. T. Paw looks like a genius for not personally raising taxes while those least able to pay them face a heavier burden due to local governments having to find a way to pay his bills.
These other cities he speaks of also have seen their property taxes raised to cover the states financial shortfall. |
