La Porte Chief of Police Richard E. Reff has announced his retirement from law enforcement. His effective retirement date will be May 31, 2008. Chief Reff has served with the La Porte Police Department since July, 1999. He began his law enforcement career with the University of Texas System Police Department in 1972. After gaining experience there, he transferred to the City of Baytown Police Department in August, 1973.

Council chambers were packed with La Porte citizens this Thursday evening who were there to voice their opinions, and voice their concerns about the rezoning proposal put forth by the La Porte Planning and Zoning Commission.
