An officer met with a woman in Veguita at 9 a.m. and learned that a neighbor's dog had come into the victim's yard and attacked one of her puppies. The puppy was dragged into the suspect's yard and mauled, causing severe cuts across the throat and on its body. The woman tried to get the dog off the puppy but was bitten on the leg in the attempt. The officer met with the owner of the loose dog and cited him into Magistrate Court. Photos of the puppy with injuries and the attacking dog which had evidence of the attack were taken.

A man on Lopezville Road reported at 9:15 p.m. that the suspect has not been taking his medication and he started to argue with him. He stated that the suspect got a pair of scissors and cut the hair of a female living in the home. The suspect then pulled a knife and threatened him with it. The officer placed the suspect under arrest and transported him to the Socorro County Detention Center.

A cow was struck by a vehicle driven by a San Antonio man at 11 p.m. on Highway 525 at mile marker 3. The cow did not survive the impact. The vehicle received minor damages.

Margaret C. Sanchez, 82, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, in Albuquerque, N.M. She was born April 3, 1926, in La Joya, N.M. to Frank and Ascension (Barela) Castillo.
She was raised in La Joya and graduated from La Joya High School. She retired after 40 years of service to the Socorro County Health Office.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Sanchez; her brother, Fulgencio Castillo; her parents; and her nieces, Lynette Gutierrez and Darlene Knabe. Read more
