Questions raised about home rented to Hays trustee

Hays school district administrators said Tuesday that they have asked the Hays County district attorney to determine whether the district is in the wrong after having district workers repair and improve a home owned by the district and once rented to Trustee Joe Muoz.

After a weeklong trial, a Hays County jury today convicted Darryl Winslow Calvin, 47, of one count of attempted aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by contact.

After Albert Jesse Segura went to a southern Travis County house in 2007 and shot two people - killing one - he took a woman who tried to flee the house hostage, drove to his father's girlfriend's house in Kyle and then headed south with the woman on Interstate 35, prosecutor Bill Bishop told a Travis County jury today.

As it turns out, the bogus bills were only the tip of the iceberg. The Hays County Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday that six people had been arrested, including a woman who tried to buy fireworks with a phony $100 bill in June, on a variety of financial and other crimes.
