An outbreak of wildfires fueled by strong winds and bone-dry weather rampaged across the state Friday, threatening West Texas towns and Hill Country subdivisions.
In King County, about 200 miles west of Fort Worth, a 10,000-acre wildfire jumped U.S. 82 and raced toward the towns of Knox City and Benjamin in neighboring Knox County. As of late Friday, 12 homes and dozens of other buildings were threatened.
In West Texas, a 14,000-acre fire moved into Gaines County near Seminole. It began in Eastern New Mexico. Read more
