A handful of Wasilla residents who would be the closest neighbors to a city-proposed shooting range near the Menard Sports Center are mounting a protest against the range.

Alaska State Troopers have impounded a pickup they discovered underwater in the Knik River this weekend.

A group of Butte residents are up in arms over a planned local shooting range. The range is among two included in the Knik River public use plan passed last fall after a two-year public process.

In the hometown of Gov. Sarah Palin, who was lauded last year for being able to field-dress a moose, hunters have long despaired for a place to sight in their rifles.

New rules for the Knik River such as a shooting ban around Jim Creek got plenty of attention at public meetings earlier this month.

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water, will hold public meetings in Butte, Wasilla and Anchorage.
