'Oregon's dirty little secret' strikes again

They talk about gambling and the need to help the people who have an addiction. The only problem is that the state of Oregon runs the legal gambling and controls who can make the money off of it. And unfortunatly for the people of Oregon it is the state and they are not going to give up that amount of money when they mismanage every other aspect of the state. The lottery is a slush fund that provides jobs for more and more state employees and allows our state goverment to misuse the funds. I feel that if the state and the indian's are allowed to have gambling so should every other person be allowed to profit from something that just a select few are allowed to now

Oregon is depressing. There is nothing to do in Oregon for 9 months out of the year aside from looking at the rain and the mud.

People need an outlet regardless of how stupid that outlet is.

Why do you know about a meth rehab center in Klamath Falls? Spent time there recently?

Oregon is a center for meth. It rains 11 months out of the year in Oregon and you have to live around Oregonians. That qualifies as hell on earth....hence the meth.

You know, here in Southern Oregon it only rains about 2 months out of the year, total. They call us the "banana belt" because of the wonderful climate. We have 4 full seasons, and even in the summer when it gets hot, it cools down nicely in the evening. The hills and mountains which surround us are green, we have beautiful rivers and streams and lots of tall trees (translate to better and more oxygen in the air) and the people here are (mostly) really great and we've got great cultural centers for plays, dance, opera, music. Don't judge all of Oregon by Portland. That is not really the true Oregon. It is just a huge population and political center on the border of Washington state, so (like in Washington state) there is lots more rain. And if you don't like huge population centers and lots of rain, but want more open spaces, then central Oregon is your place (Bend). It is high desert and has a beauty all its own. I've grown up here in Oregon and have also lived in several other states. I couldn't wait to return to Oregon.

Portland is the ONLY population center in Oregon and even it is trying to flee the state and escape over the river to Washington. I don't really know why because Vancouver is as bad as Portland.

I don't know what is going on these days but Bend had an unemployment rate earlier this year of nearly 20%. That qualifies as depression rates as the true unemployment rate is higher than the 'official' one. That pretty much proves my point about Oregon. It always has high unemployment and high gas prices. The worst of both worlds: low income and high cost.

Oregonians are mean-spirited, unwelcoming, sullen, violent, untrustworthy and lazy. That is not conducive to job growth or robust employment. Oregon gets money and people fleeing from California's high costs and crowded cities. When that stops or slows Oregon goes back to being a hick backwater that is not gainfully employed in doing anything of use.

Someone said that Oregon is cursed...I am beginning to believe that.

To answer "Oregon is disgusting," there is high unemployment everywhere. I feel so sorry for you, up there in Toronto, Canada, since you think you know the Oregonians, but obviously don't. Portland is not the only population center here, just the largest. Medford is classified as a metropolitan center, as is Eugene. If you think we are mean-spirited, you are so wrong. I have seen people gather together to help people who have terminal diseases, loss of homes through fire, and other disasters. When we have had disasters here in Ashland, I have seen people open their homes to strangers and provide food and shelter. They open their hearts and wallets and help each other. Our gas prices are actually lower than those in California and Washington. I've driven over the state borders and had to pay up to 50 cents a gallon more. The people of Oregon are no more mean-spirited, unwelcoming, sullen, violent, untrustworthy and lazy than anyone else, anywhere else. In fact, most of those characteristics can be found in any large city (including Toronto)that has depressed neighborhoods, slums, or barrios. I really feel sorry for someone who has such a negative attitude as you have evidenced. It is obvious that life has handed you a bag of lemons, but rather than try to make some lemonade you have decided to just make sour faces. Don't blame others for your attitude. You own it! You should deal with it!

Oregon is so ridiculous that its toothless, uneducated, violent hicks think that Eugene and Medford are population centers. That is really funny.

Oregonians are sullen and rude. They are the coldest people I have ever met. Remember that Oregonians were the ones telling other people to come, visit, leave money and then leave. Remember that Oregonians wanted to build a wall between Oregon and California. Remember the Oregonians would regularly abuse cars with out of state license plates.

Oregonians are violent thugs who know nothing, do nothing and spend all of their time figuring out how to make the lives of others absolutely miserable. This is why Oregon consistently has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. Jobs don't even want to be around Oregonians.

Obviously you know nothing about Oregon or you would know that it is consistently overcast, cold, rainy, muddy, slippery, windy and miserable. You can go to any Oregon park or campground or beach and find ...no one. Who wants to spend time pulling their boots out of two feet of muck while simultaneously dodging hail stones and falling tree branches?

Oregonians do not spend time out of doors. The weather is so bad that the out of doors consists of running across the parking lot between stores and cars. For proof of this fact, just see how pale and pudgy Oregonians are. Most Oregonians couldn't tell the front of a bike or a ski to save their lives. Don't be ridiculous. The image of Oregonians as outdoorsy is a myth. A small minority of Oregonians spend their time outdoors but even they spend most days inside with their videogames.

What is really funny is how prickly, mean, nasty and needy Oregon posters are. They know they have nothing to support their idiotic positions so they spend day in and day out whining about those who are realistic about the state.

Whine-whine-whine is the Oregon state song these days.

It seems from reading all the posts that OID is the only poster who is whining, prickly, mean, and nasty.

FYI Medford is officially classified as a metropolitan center due to its population, location, and access to educational (1 college & 1 university) and cultural centers (The Craterian Center in Medford and Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, as well as about 15 other live theaters plus a symphony, opera company, and ballet company in Jackson County). OID obviously knows nothing about modern Oregon.

Back in the 50's (over 40 years ago!) Gov. Tom McCall had a campaign which told Californians to come, spend money, then go home. But, as I said, that was over 4 decades ago!

Oregon hosts the "Ride to the Beach" every year in which cyclists ride from Portland to the Pacific Ocean. They also host the Pacific Rim ride, and we've had at least 3 other huge bicycle runs just here in Southern Oregon this last year, including one from Portland to Crater Lake National Park, and back, over 500 miles. Ashland is known for being pedestrian-friendly and a significant portion of our residents choose to ride bikes to and from work and for shopping.

The more he rants and raves, the more I am convinced that OID has never been in Southern Oregon, Central Oregon, or Eastern Oregon. He judges all Oregon by Portland. Since he is obviously uninformed, deliberately stupid, and totally in the dark about Oregon, I will not be responding to any more of his asinine inanities. What could he know anyway, stuck thousands of miles away in Toronto, Canada? I'll bet he has never even been to Oregon!

As expected, as is typical, Oregon is in the basket-case-of-states. What are these states? These are the 10% of states that are headed for financial disaster.

They are states with huge drops in revenues, increases in unemployment and big budget gaps. They include California and Michigan predictably but they also include...drum roll...Oregon.

So Oregon, which cannot rely on the excuses of a failing auto industry or a massive construction bubble, is failing along with those states that can point to specific problems. Why does Oregon fail like this all the time?

Oregonians.

Oregonians are untrustworthy. Oregonians are so untrustworthy that even money flees the state along with jobs. The numbers DO NOT LIE. Oregonians LIE.

Ashland? Ashland is a puny little town. Whom do you think you are kidding?

The 'Oregonians hate you but want your money' campaign was conducted in the 80s and 90s. The attitude is still alive and well today although not as visible because Oregonians are desperate for jobs.

Oregonians still gripe endlessly about California money while whining, at the same time, about the lack of it. Oregonians are nothing if not hypocrites.

Mental illness is a growth industry in Oregon.
