Long Island teen charged with DWI in fatal crash
A Long Island teenager has been charged with drunken driving in a car crash that killed his passenger.
Police say 19-year-old Devin Cholodenko of Riverhead was driving a 1996 Toyota in Smithtown early Thursday when the Toyota struck a guard rail and then a tree.
Cholodenko suffered a broken pelvis and was taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center.
His passenger, 19-year-old Scott Lamm of Kings Park, was ejected from the car. He was taken by ambulance to St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The families of two men who died after they drove off the Kings Park municipal boat ramp March 15 have initiated wrongful death litigation against the Town of Smithtown.
