Man Found Dead In North Haven House Fire

The fire in the basement of a house at 1743 Hartford Turnpike was called in at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, the North Haven Fire Department reported. "Firefighters did a primary search while simultaneously attacking the fire and they located the body of one deceased person in the basement," the department said in a release read over the phone.

Motorcyclist Killed In Trumbull Accident

A 48-year-old man riding a motorcycle was killed Sunday morning after he was hit by a car at the corner of Church Hill Road and Quality Street, police said. The car, a 1023 Honda civic, was operated by an 88-year-old woman who was turning left onto Quality Street.

Aide Tells How Disclosing Rowland's Role Hurt Campaign

A top aide to congressional candidate Lisa Wilson-Foley testified on Thursday that Wilson-Foley's 2012 campaign was thrown into disarray and eventually collapsed when she was forced to disclose that former Gov. John Rowland was working for her while being paid by her husband's nursing home chain. For months, former political director Christopher Syrek said, Wilson-Foley had succeeded in concealing that the disgraced former governor was effectively running the campaign with consultant and former Republican state chairman Christopher Healy.

Pistorius Verdict

A South African judge cleared Oscar Pistorius of all murder charges on Thursday, saying prosecutors had failed to prove the Olympic and Paralympic track star intended to kill his girlfriend or an imagined intruder on Valentine's Day last year. Although judge Thokozile Masipa described the 27-year-old as a "very poor" and "evasive" witness, she said this did not mean the track star was necessarily guilty in a case she said was based entirely on circumstantial evidence.

A $750,000 bond was ordered Monday for a man from Honduras who a judge said is a "danger to the community." Hartford officers arrested Carlos Aguirre, 33, Sunday, charging him with first-degree unlawful restraint, third-degree sexual assault and motor vehicle charges, according to police.

A former state trooper who is accused of raping an 81-year-old woman at a Windsor Locks motel in June was the subject of four internal affairs investigations before he was fired in December 2010, according to disciplinary documents released to The Courant Friday. Vernon Police Investigating Rash Of Car Break-Ins

Lt. William Meier of the Vernon Police Department said the break-ins have all involved unlocked cars and primarily occurred during the overnight hours while the cars were parked at residences. Meier said small electronic devices, wallets and loose change and cash have primarily been taken out of the vehicles.
