Marin Catholic-Kentfield 45, Heritage 27

The Heritage High football team had no answer for Marin Catholic's duo of Darius-James Peterson and running back Jake Laudenslager, as the two combined for six touchdowns in the Wildcats' 45-27 win over host Heritage on Friday. While Marin Catholic dominated on the run, it did have some difficulty passing the ball as Peterson was intercepted twice, and both led to touchdowns for Heritage.

$200,000 financial aid scam hits Bay Area college

Police at the College of Marin are investigating 23 individuals suspected of posing as students in a plot to steal $200,000 in federal financial aid, some of which has already been paid out by the college. Two vigilant faculty members brought the suspected scam to the attention of college administrators after noticing that several students in their online classes shared the same address and phone number, weren't participating in online discussions and withdrew soon after financial aid had been disbursed.

Marin approves garbage rate hike for 4,100 customers

Garbage rates are headed up for 4,100 customers in unincorporated neighborhoods stretching from San Rafael to the Ross Valley. The Board of Supervisors approved a 5.52 percent rate hike Tuesday, pushing the average tab for a 32-gallon can up $1.77 a month to $33.83.

A drifter accused of raping an intoxicated woman in Bolinas six years ago finally saw his day in court last Friday, after his arrest outside Portland led to his transfer into Marin authorities' custody. On September 1, 2008, a Kentfield woman drank two, 16-ounce malt liquor beverages at her home before a friend picked her up and drove her to Bolinas.
