" wood biomass energy facilities might pick up the slack. " - great idea...cut down trees to make it into energy. No enviro-impact there...

Clear cut is better for the future.

The natural way is to burn it down to the ground, clear cut by human is the same with the wood being used instead of going up in smoke.

The DNR is now treating trees just like all the animals. If it moves - kill it. If it grows - cut it down. It's too bad they can't use the trees for target practice like they do the animals.

Exactly! I was waiting for someone knowledgeable to make this comment, instead of some ignorant tree hugger that doesn't know sh-t about forest management.

Some people have no great love of trees that put oxygen into the air. I bet in ten years there will barely be a tree to be found right here in Grand Rapids, just for the fact that they keep getting cut down to make room for new businesses. Oh great! Now logging! Wonder how many years it takes to replace that tree that gets cut down?

Lots of animal thrive in and require young forests. Having a balance of old and new growth is critical in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

Right on, for those uninformed you should take a look at the various ages of forests.

A clear cut forest grows very quickly into a very healthy young forest. I own an old 80 acres and choose to not cut it but the big trees are begging to fall and replaceing them is ALL brush.

Yet forests in the area that have been cut are thick with new growth trees and the animals thrive in the new growth.

BTW when the clear cut they always leave a number of big healthy trees for the critters.

Minnesota has an important forest products industry that creates jobs and is eco-friendly. Its not an either or situation. Let the experts do their job and quit pretending you know their business better than they do.
The DNR and the industry know the issues and plan for the future. Their livelihoods are at stake. And they are also sportsmen.

Maybe the DNR should take the tree huggers on tours of forests at the various stages of regrowth and the tree huggers could see first hand how a harvested forest turns into a healthy forest very quickly.

Load up the ECO powered busses with huggers and a short drive to the Nemadji forest 1.5 hours north of the cities and the huggers could see it for themselves.

Tree harvesting IS SUSTAINABLE!!

Healthy for animals AND mankind.

Sam,

what a horrible idea. Progressives do not care to debate with you. They are not going to listen to experts unless it advances their agenda. Have you not heard of Sal Alinsky's isolate and ridicule formula for advancement of agenda? They would rather destroy people who do no agree with them than actually debate them.

Sad, but very true. Pesky things like facts will not derail a destructive agenda. The agenda, destroy America as we know it today.
