Officials investigate 911 delay in deadly fire
With Doylestown officials asking for answers, Bucks County Emergency Communications officials are probing dispatchers' response to a 911 call from a disabled woman who died in a Jan. 29 fire in the borough.
Dispatchers took seven rings to answer the call from Brenda Orr, 53, then failed to answer with the standard ''911, what is your emergency?'' -- instead placing her on hold for nearly 30 seconds, even after she had said her bed was on fire.
According to a recording the county provided Friday, a male dispatcher first picked up Orr's call and said, ''911, can you hold one second, please?'' An audibly agitated Orr replied, ''I can't! It's an emergency, nine, one, one emergency, three, four, zero Doyle. Bed on fire!'' It is not clear from the recording at what point she was put on hold; there is no response from the first dispatcher. Read more
