<![CDATA[Regarding the editorial "Open on Sunday" (the Spectrum, March 23) -- let's end the suffering now: How? St. George golf courses and restaurants need to get with the program by hiring sufficient staff to end the acute suffering of members of the Spectrum's editorial board who have to endure slow play and food service on Sundays now. --- In "Separate the facts from the factions" (The Spectrum, March 23), Thomas Sowell again accurately describes his own chronic shortcoming -- in Sowell's war against President Barack Obama, the first casualty is the truth. --- In World War II, Hitler signed a peace treaty with Poland aboard a train. Two days later, Hitler's storm troopers seized Poland (Hitler lied). Putin claims he sent 20,000 troops into Crimea to protect Russian residents (he lied). Then he claimed 97 percent of Crimea residents voted to annex Crimea back to Russia (he lied). It's obvious Putin is another Hitler. --- It's a bloody miracle. Regarding "Spring cleaning good for government" (Spectrum, March 22), John Stossel, one of The Spectrum's large cadre of conservative pundits, actually acknowledged the GOP is involved in government waste, and Stossel went on to attack one of the GOP's favorite wasteful enterprises: "Welfare for businesses ... ." But as usual, one of Stossel's major assertions is erroneous -- rather than being thwarted, Americans find a way to eliminate unjust and unwise government regulations. --- I was disappointed to learn old Dan McArthur has thrown his hat into the ring for county commissioner. Haven't we seen enough of him to last a lifetime? His methods are outdated, and his good-old-boy tactics unwelcome. I wish he would just go back to his chicken coup and keep to himself for a change. --- Well, it sure looks like the ghosts of Christmas past have returned early with the lineup of Republican candidates running for Washington County Commission. Seems that some of them feel they should be there by divine right -- old soldiers are supposed to just fade away! --- 600 North in Hurricane was chip-sealed about year ago or less. Somebody in Hurricane city management should take the contractor who did the work by the ear and march him over to 600 North and ask him is this how all your work ends up? Then they should ask for their money back. Or the person in management should be taken by the ear and marched over to 600 North and asked "what were you thinking?" --- The proponents of the Lake Powell pipeline are willing to spend a billion dollars to build it. How much are they willing to spend to fill the Colorado River, which is drying up? --- We need a pipeline so that the population can grow. We need the population to grow so that we can pay for the pipeline. Does anyone else see something wrong with this logic? --- So Brittny Goodsell walked the chocolate milk road and found nothing at the end but a bowl of Jello. Hang in there. Spring is here and with it the essence of Tanqueray. The promised elixir awaits you. Stay tuned. --- Petty, Petty. I was a good little guy and did my colonoscopy. The doctor in our town found a problem and suggested I follow up with a specialist. I called the St. George group, and they wouldn't take his referral since they didn't do the scope. Money medicine at its best. --- Well Mr. Triptow of the Writers Group, I think you trip up and exaggerate a bit as to a "neighborhood Latino organization" attempting to hijack your church facility as you described. It's really not believable, and actually does a disservice to the community. --- So, the editorial board wants either better service on Sunday or for businesses to close for that day. So sad that they aren't satisfied with what we have here. Maybe they should all move away. --- Hey all you drivers out there. You know those on-ramps to the interstate? They are meant to help you get up to speed and be ready to merge with traffic. You don't get to 30 mph and stay at 30 mph as you pull out on I-15. That's a good way to hurt yourself and someone else. --- I was glad to hear the St. George Musical Theater is coming back. I only hope the organizers learned a lesson last time and will operate it more efficiently. To say the group has been a financial disaster is an understatement. Remember when it was going to build its own theater on 1000 East? What exactly happened to my donation and the donations of others who gave for that cause? You won't get my money this time around. --- Can we please have residents trim their shrubs and trees at intersections? There are some locations in the city that are very difficult to see around. I hate pulling out into the intersection without a clear line of site.
