'We are too dependent on state revenues,' says Birmingham schools CFO
In a budget presentation, Watts said state revenue is projected to make up 59 percent of the system's general fund budget in fiscal 2015, which starts Oct. 1. "I've been saying this for years, but this basically shows us that we are too dependent on state revenue," Watts said. Between fiscal 2014 and 2015, the state's foundation program, which funds school operations if they commit local matching funds, is projected to increase $270,972 to $135.6 million.
