“Titanic'; 'On the Street Where You Live'; 'Windmung”
Ronny Skinner and Kyle Melton brought home state honors after competing at the 2007-08 National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) vocal competition held at the N.C. School of the Arts.
Both students were accompanied by Mary Ann Studenburg, who has devoted many years to assisting the CVCC music program, its staff and students.
Skinner competed in both the musical theater and classical division.
He scored excellent in his musical selections, which included 'The Baby Song' from 'I Love You'; 'My Defenses Are Down' from 'Annie Get Your Gun'; 'Seek Ye The Lord' by Roberts; and 'Non Pui Andrai' from 'Le Notte Di Figaro' by Mozart. Read more

Alexander County Proposes New Land-Use Plan: Balancing bucolic with business
“They're interested in growth. They understand growth is needed”
Alexander County is beautiful with its rolling hills and quiet countryside, and people here want to keep it that way. But they also want to see it bring in jobs and tax revenue.
A county-appointed committee has taken that vision and incorporated it into a new version of Alexander's land-use plan, the document's first update since county commissioners adopted the inaugural version in 1993.
The proposal, which commissioners could adopt in April, would guide the board and planners as they control the county's growth over the next 10-15 years. Read more
