First off, we live in Littlestown school district. 2nd, unless the letters are being released today 11/4 of poor Kyree, we have not as parents recieved any letters about this case.
My son was ill for 3 weeks prior to 10/23. The dr's thought it was just his allergies cause of season changes. Through the last week of being ill, he developed coughing, I sent him to school anyway thinking it was just the allergies. HE NEVER WAS SENT TO THE NURSES OFFICE. HE CAME HOME FRIDAY OCTOBER 23RD SO SICK LOOKING. AS WE WALKED HOME FROM THE BUS I FELT HIS HEAD HE WAS BURNING HOT. I TOOK HIS TEMP AND IT REGISTERED 103. I gave him fever reducer and thank the Lord it broke. My son is in first grade. That Saturday, my daughter who is an afternoon K student developed a 102 fever. With meds and prayer it broke also. Wills said Tuesday morning that he had not heard any complaints about the district's decision to include no reference to swine flu in the letters that were sent home HOW CAN WE COMPLAIN WHEN WE NEVER GOT ANY? Not to put the parent down about this but, you shouldn't sent this child to school after your trip to VA knowing he was ill. I read somewhere else that he was ill on your adventure in VA. That was a reason you came back home. My heart goes out to you and your in our prayers. My daughter says she will miss seeing your son in the hallways and she sends you love. |

I have 3 children in the Littlestown school district. All 3 of them have brought home multiple papers regarding the swine flu as well as information about the vaccine. In fact we have one of the pages stuck to our refrigerator so I can reference it quickly.
After Kyree passed away(my deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family)a letter went home to kindergarten families to inform them of this tragedy. Not sure why the Mrs. Waddell is not getting these papers but they have been sent. Two of my children have been sick this fall and both have thankfully recovered. I talk to them repeatedly about washing hands and coughing into their elbow and I know the teachers are doing likewise. I think the district has done an excellent job in educating the kids, but they are kids and they forget and touch each others stuff, cough and sneeze without covering their mouths, etc. The district is also disinfecting all surfaces in classrooms, lunch tables, buses each day. The death of this wonderful little boy is indeed a tragedy and the Littlestown community grieves with his family. |

I too live in the Littlestown School District w/ a child that is in a K class and on Oct. 21 to taken to the hospital w/ a fever of 104.8, and tested + for Influenza A, they would not test for H1N1, but thought 100% that is what is was. The only notice we received from the school was that there had been flu like symptoms with some of the students. Nothing about confirmed cases of H1N1. I am very disappointed with how they have handled the matter. We as parents try to protect our children, but we can't protect them fully when we don't know what is going on.

Where did you get this info at??? They got back from VA on the 11th and that is the same day he was admitted in the hospital. |

To this Mrs.Waddell if you read the article correctly you would have read that he was admitted to Hershey Medical Center on October 11th. So he wasn't in school when he became sick. There's been so many cases of the swine flu in my son's daycare that they said that they are not going to post every case. You need to say you are sorry for running off at the mouth when you don't know the whole story. But what should be expect you are from Littlestown.

What Kyree's mom doesn't need right now is someone talking about something when they don't know the whole story. Swine flu doesn't discrimanate it has infected all races. Kyree was a healthy kid who loved life. If you're mad at anyone it should be your child for not giving you the papers not the school district. Think next time Mrs.Waddell! This could have been your child. Do you want all your business in the streets? I don't think so.

ANNON, By October 23rd Kyree had already been in the hospital for 12 days. What are u trying to say that, Kyree infected everyone?! WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON IN THIS LITTLESTOWN COMMUNITY? This swine flu knows no color.
|

Where is the vaccine the school kids were supposed to get?
|
||||

I didn't see where any of this had to do w/ race. Or what his family was doing prior to his passing. Or where you live. It has to do with concerned parents trying to protect their children. The flu is all over the place and you can pick it up anywhere. Would I have liked to know that there were kids at school that had H1N1, yes, do I care what those kids names are, no. Just information. We did get the "what you can do to prevent" and "symptoms" papers. I check my daughters folder every day when she gets home from school. We DID NOT have anything from the school regarding Kyree. My heart goes out to his family. I hope they find peace in the wake of such tragedy.

What are u talking about????? I don't get it. My intention was not that he infected anyone. Read the post I was typing as you were typing your ignorant response. I don't think anyone said anything about "who" it infects aside from yourself. Did I indicate that I thought that is where it came from, read it again slow Gettysburg Friend.

The boy did not go to Virginia. He was to go that weekend when he got sick. If you read in the article, Dr. Wells CAN NOT TELL YOU WHO HAS THE H1N1. HIPPA protects pt's rights. The LASD has done the upmost to protect your/our children the best they can. There are kids that have H1N1 that walk around in Walmart, MCD's, Khol's. Do you get the point. The boy was Healthy when this influenza hit him. H1N1 doesn't care how old, race, religion, or country when it hits. There was a letter sent home to all the Kindergarden students about Krye. My heart goes out to the family. GOD has a purpose for what he does. The boy has touched so many in the little time he was here. Rest in peace Krye, you have no more pain but now live with peace and joy. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers for years to come.

I agree with Bolt Parent. I think the LASD has done a wonderful job of keeping us informed and handling this unfortunate situation. Letters have come home, phone calls have been made and information is posted on their website. They cannot give out personal medical information but they are getting the word out on what they know and what they can tell us about how to be safe and keep our kids safe.
I also take notice that the custodial staff is there well into the night cleaning every room. That impresses me. |

oh my gosh, get over it..a little by died. lets give him family some respect. the days and years to come will be very hard for them, prayers and love to the young childs family.

First and foremost, I am so sorry about this child's death, and I will be praying for his family. Ok having said that, if I am reading this article correctly, the school district did not deem it necessary to inform the parents in the school that this little boy had the swine flu? Are you kidding me that is ridiculous, this flu is an epidemic and the parents of all the children in the school should have been informed about this, you are not Dr's and are not bound by confidentiality laws especially when there are so many other children at risk. If you did not want to say the child's name that is fine but you should have told the parents that there was a confirmed case of the swine flu in the school so that the parents could take precautions and be able to keep an eye on their children. To my thinking the school district was playing God and making decisions that they had no business making.

Not sure where you are living, but almost every child that has been sick with a fever, cough, aches for multiple days has the swine flu. The CDC has reported that it is too early in the season for the "regular" flu so almost all flu cases (whether they are officially confirmed by a doctor or not) are swine. In fact, most doctors are not even testing for swine anymore. No one was "playing God" as you stated. Over 10% of the student population was absent in the last few weeks in the Littlestown school district (similar numbers were seen in all local districts as well.) A little common sense should let all parents realize that some type of virus is/was traveling through the schools. My children came home daily with reports of how many classmates were absent. For every case the school system hears about there are many kids who have it and either don't know they have it or who don't report it to the school. Are you suggesting that everytime a new case is reported that the district issue another letter? What precautions would you have taken had you have known other than keeping your children home from school?(Which if you are planning on doing that everytime there is a confirmed case your child will be missing a great deal of school...)The teachers/nurses/staff are teaching precautions and the LASD website educates parents on how to do the same. You were right in your statement that this is an epidemic which is why parents need to remain vigilant and watch their children for signs and symptoms that have been reported on repeatedly. Kyree's mother did just that and took him to the hospital when she suspected the seriousness of what this poor little boy had. There are no words to describe the horror that this family in now living but pointing the finger of blame is not the answer either! |

My prayers go out to the family and friends of this little boy.
|
||||
Talk about inconsiderate... you sent your kid to school sick as well. The teachers aren't babysitters, they don't go around feeling every child's head. That's not their job. Maybe you should have called the school to check on your child. |
||||
|
Not balming the little boys mother, I blame the school and I am not backing down on this. I am glad my child does not go to public school, her school is very vigilant in informing the parents of issues that come up within the school, as it should be.

People, get a grip. Just know that this little boy is in Heaven with his God now. I pray for the family of this precious little boy. I knew Kyree persnally since he was a baby at my church. God be with his family and friends and give them peace in their heart.
Now, first of all, the Littlestown School district was correct in not "identifying" the cause of illness. It is not in their jurisdiction to do so. Also know, that probably 70-80% of children in this age group has had this swine flu. Know the symptoms. Even though their is a test for H1N1; in is only 40% acurate. A parent must assume that when their child has flu like symptoms-it is swine. Watch for respiratory changes such as difficulty breathing, listless behavior,etc. My young ones have had it and I didn't need a dr. telling me so. Treat it as seasonal flu only watch more diligently for resp. symptoms. This is an unfortunate case. Pray together; don't argue about it. |
