More than 200 phone calls from friends of arrested Interstate 69 protesters tied up phone lines at the Gibson County Sheriff's office throughout the day and evening on Monday.

The Indiana Department of Transportation shut down part of Highway 68 in Gibson County this week, in anticipation of the start of actual construction on the I-69 project.

Tensions surrounding the long-planned Interstate 69 extension show no sign of calming as a prominent lobby group readies for a private ribbon-cutting celebrating the start of construction.

The first group of protesters showed up around 6:00 a.m. and by 9:00 a.m. there were 13 arrests made.
