Tropical rains assail Texas as Gulf system approaches
Rain showers could bring an additional 2.5 to 5 inches of rain to a broad area of the coastal plains including the Rio Grande Valley and the Texas Coastal Bend. Heavy tropical rain showers continued to fall across large areas of coastal Texas over the weekend causing localized flooding and high water in parts of Deep South Texas.

City, firemen resume collective bargaining talks
Anthony Ruiz News Collective bargaining negotiations resumed last week between the City of Alice and the International Association of Fire Fighters Alice Local 4102 as the city presented its draft proposal for a new two-year contract between the entities. Discussions to create a new contract began in September 2012, but stalled out before it could be put in place.

Medical flight got wrong fuel before crash
Federal safety investigators say an air ambulance got the wrong fuel at a New Mexico airport before it took off and crashed, killing all four people aboard. A National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report says the twin-engine aircraft was refueled with 40 gallons of jet fuel instead of aviation gasoline at the Las Cruces airport on Aug. 27. However, it says a crew member called the dispatcher on a satellite telephone and reported they were returning because smoke was coming from the right engine.

Tropical Storm Dolly Forms in The Gulf of Mexico
AccuWeather reports the southwest Gulf of Mexico has given birth to the Atlantic basin's fourth tropical storm of the season. Dolly is expected to take a northwest path this week that will cause the system to move onshore in northeastern Mexico and well inland.

Registered sex offender sentenced to 20 years in prison for indecency with a child
A jury in the 404th state District Court found Harlingen man and registered sex offender Gregorio Gonzalez, Jr. guilty of indecency with a child by exposure and was sentenced by the judge to 20 years in prison. Gonzalez, 61, exposed himself and made sexually-explicit gestures toward two 7-year-old girls at the San Benito Public Library in February 2013.
