Al Peterson is from a generation where all Indians were "drunks,thieves, and liars". He was raised on this racist and intolerant pablum, and thrived. He is a big fish in a little pond, and is far enough behind the times that he thinks that there will be no repercussions for his comments. His "standing" and influence in the community of Hardin, will now be sorely tested. Indian voters, families and many others are embracing new ideas and values.
He will have to adapt or die. His mask of decorum slipped, along with his true feelings in regards, not only to the Sheriff, but Natives in general. This man believes in the staus quo, will not resign, and will continue to perpetuate rascism and intolerance to the children. He demonstrated no remorse, or even acknoledgement that he was grossly out of line.
Witht he media spotlight on Hardin, it may become more apparent that the TRA Detention Facility is not the only "standing joke".
