Hawaii Senators Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka said in a Washington news release that the funding "will help protect and preserve irreplaceable, beautiful and unique parts of Hawaii." They singled out Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge on Maui, which will get the bulk of the money.
