Middletown Police Looking For Woman Seen On Video Stealing Statue At Cemetery

A woman is believed to have stolen a $100 statue from a grave site over the weekend at the Calvary Cemetery on Bow Lane and police say they are looking for her the public's help identifying her. Video shows a woman on Saturday stop her white SUV, get out of the vehicle, pick up the statue and put it in her car, police said.

Bridgeport Police Seek Robbery, Shooting Suspect

Police are seeking the public's assistance to apprehend a suspect who they said robbed a local business and shot the owner in the foot Monday night. Police said the incident happened at Hair Plus at 161 Boston Ave. at approximately 6:26 p.m. An unidentified black male entered the store at that time, pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the owner, Se Jong Chung, according to police.

A tiny scarlet chili pepper that's so hot it's used in India to stop wandering elephants and is being studied by the U.S. military for use as a weapon are for sale at the Lewis Educational Agricultural Farm. The pinky-sized peppers don't look like trouble as crooked splashes of red in their pots at the LEAF farm greenhouse.

East Haddam Today

East Haddam Bridges to re-open Nov. 1

Come Nov. 1, East Haddam residents will no longer have to detour when traveling along Route 82. According to Department of Transportation Chief Inspector John Dibiagio, the two bridges being refurbished in the center of town will once again be open to traffic. "The bridges have to be open no later than Nov.1, with a completion date of Nov. 15," he said.

State parks centennial bash to end at Haddam Meadows

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will conclude the celebration of the Connecticut State Parks Centennial with a grand finale event Saturday called "The Sky's the Limit" at Haddam Meadows State Park. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue to 3 p.m., with DEEP Commissioner Rob Klee speaking at 11 a.m. The park is located on 154 acres along the Connecticut River in Haddam.

East Hartford Man Shot In Springfield

Detectives are investigating the shooting of a 38-year-old East Hartford man, who was found laying on the ground next to his 2006 Cadillac sedan at Island Pond Road and Overlook Drive in Springfield. Police said they were dispatched to the intersection at 4:55 a.m. Sunday.
