Ask a cop: Cell phone tickets on the rise

I 100% agree that talking on a cell phone is a danger while driving.

However, I don't see any problem if someone makes or takes a quick call while at a red light.

Who can they possibly harm?

In time, even using blue tooth and hands free will be found to be too much of a distraction. It is not the hands that are being impaired by cell phones, it is the mind. One cannot give proper attention to driving, while talking to someone.

I ride almost everyday. I live in the unicorperated part of Whitter on the Pico Rivera Boarder.
My destination to work is La Mirada Industy circle and Artesia.

I have seen as well as almost become a hood decal due to cell phone drivers. They come into my lane. I honk and they look at me like I am a idiot. Then I am at a signal waiting and there is someone texting behind me. Somehow the foot slips off the brake. I have almost been rear ended too many times.

I see people with tinted windows, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, or cars and trucks with no licenses plates flying by with a cell in the ear. They drive llike they have no cares. I know the law enforcement is doing there best but it's hard for those in patrol cars to see the violators.

I think that there should be more motor officers out there as a motorcyclist and scooterist should I see more. Also I see your community officers out there and they see the violations happening I think that they should have the power to either issue citations or be like red llght camera's see take a pic and send the violation per mail.
