Grasonville woman killed in cycle crash
An Eastern Shore woman was killed early yesterday when the motorcycle on which she was a passenger crashed on a street in Chester, a Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.
Kimberly Dawn Rada, 46, of Grasonville was pronounced dead at the scene on Main Street about 1 a.m., said Dale Patrick, the spokesman.
Patrick said the driver of the 1999 Harley-Davidson Sportster was seen fleeing the scene on foot and was apprehended nearby by Deputy Sheriff Jessie Adams. Patrick said the driver, Larry Gene Smith, 41, of Greenbelt, was charged with multiple traffic offenses and was being held on $25,000 bond. Read more

The Anne Arundel County auditor is raising questions about the county's purchase of 30 acres recently slated for a shopping center for $2 million more than the current owners paid for the same property in October.
Auditor Teresa Sutherland also joined state Comptroller Peter Franchot in questioning why two developers are selling the tract in Wayson's Corner to Anne Arundel County for about $1.25 million less than the $7 million average of two appraisals.
Sutherland and Franchot are suggesting that the county deal of $5.75 million could allow Walter Petrie and E. Steuart Chaney to be reimbursed for more than $2 million in development costs - such as for engineering, lawyers fees and traffic studies - even though county and state officials said that it is against their practice to do so.
