County eyes funding for door security at jail, court facilities

The Alamance County Board of Commissioners will consider Monday whether to approve funds to repair and update the door security systems at the Sheriff's Office, jail and court facilities. Assistant County Manager Bryan Hagood said the existing door security system at the facilities has become inoperative in some locations and requires repair and updating.

Promise of dog leads to robbery, wreck, charges

One man has been charged in a Friday morning robbery that resulted in a car wreck after a trio reportedly lured a victim by offering to sell him a dog. Around 11:20 a.m., Burlington police officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at Gunn Street and Meridian Avenue, where a 2007 gray Honda four-door car had struck a house.

Graham clears way for group home on West Harden Street

A special-use permit to allow for a group home in a neighborhood that has a history of group homes was approved by the majority of council Tuesday. Latoya Murphy requested the special-use permit for a group home to care for no more than six mentally ill residents at 630 W. Harden St. Enoch said the home would be for people 18 years and older and would have one caretaker per shift 'round the clock.
